Project Engineer (Electrical Prefabrication)
Job Description
Electrical Prefabrication Project Engineer oversees the prefabrication and preassembly of electrical systems, coordinating with BIM/VDC and project teams to deliver on schedule, within budget, and to high quality standards.
Responsibilities
- Directs all prefabrication and preassembly activities for electrical systems.
- Guarantees projects meet schedule, budget, and quality targets.
- Partners with department leaders, project managers, superintendents, and BIM/VDC teams to optimize fabrication workflows and ensure installations comply with specifications, B&I standards, and building codes.
- Lead the Electrical shop crew, coordinating activities to maintain safe, productive operations.
- Collaborate with BIM/VDC teams to deliver precise drawings and fabrication-ready specifications.
- Evaluate submittals to confirm equipment, fixtures, and materials meet project requirements, and relay feedback to PMs and VDC teams.
- Review architectural, civil, and structural drawings to verify space and elevation adequacy for MEP systems and resolve clashes.
- Procure materials, tools, and equipment, ensuring timely delivery to support production timelines.
- Perform field visits to review shop drawings with installation crews and collect feedback for improvement.
- Assess performance of shop foremen and staff, provide coaching and training to sustain productivity, and conduct timely performance reviews.
- Apply and monitor Lean manufacturing practices to drive continuous process improvement and waste reduction.
- Coordinate with other trades to prevent conflicts and maintain smooth workflow.
- Prioritize safety by enforcing company policies and OSHA regulations in the shop.
- Contribute to the development of relevant KPIs.
- Maintain KPI Core Value boards with regular updates focused on safety, quality, and productivity.
- Provide mentorship to develop future Electrical Managers, BIM/VDC Spoolers, and shop leaders.
- Develop standard operating procedures, train the team on them, and ensure accountability for SOP compliance.
- This position requires the ability to lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 pounds on a frequent basis.

Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years of Project Engineering experience with a focus in commercial Electrical.
- Subject Matter Expert for electrical systems, materials, fabrication, and installation techniques.
- Experience with Lean manufacturing principles and process improvement.
- OSHA 30 certification.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, submittals, and specifications.
- Proficient with construction technology (Bluebeam, Evolve, Navisworks, etc.) and MS Office suite (Outlook, Teams, Planner, Power BI, etc.).
- Comply with all B&I safety procedures.
- Drug test, background check, and a clean driving record are pre-employment requirements.
