AI Engineer
Job Description
MassMutual is hiring an AI Engineer in Springfield, MA (hybrid) with a salary range of USD 141,300 to 185,400 per year to design, develop, and deploy AI and ML solutions across the enterprise using LLMs, deep learning, agentic AI, and probabilistic modeling, owning initiatives from problem framing to production with minimal supervision.
Responsibilities
- Lead the end to end design, development, and delivery of AI solutions that address high value business problems across the enterprise.
- Apply machine learning, generative and agentic AI, and LLM based techniques to real world challenges.
- Scope problems, build and evaluate solutions, and bring them into production with limited supervision.
- Take full ownership of defined initiatives, driving quality and performance from development through deployment.
- Design and deliver end to end AI/ML solutions for defined business use cases using LLMs, deep learning, agentic AI, and probabilistic modeling, with lifecycle ownership.
- Frame AI problems independently, establishing success metrics and evaluation criteria with stakeholders before and during development.
- Design rigorous evaluations of AI system performance, including experiments, model benchmarking, and quantitative analysis to support decisions.
- Build rapid prototypes to test approaches and advance validated solutions into production grade applications such as intelligent interfaces, dashboards, and automated pipelines.
- Follow best practices in AI development, responsible deployment, and production engineering, contributing to team standards and reusable frameworks.
- Communicate findings and recommendations clearly to technical peers and non technical stakeholders, translating quantitative results into actionable insights.
- Contribute to team knowledge through documentation, peer feedback, and mentoring for less experienced colleagues.
Requirements
- Minimum 4 years of experience in data science, machine learning, or AI engineering with a track record of delivering AI/ML solutions at scale and with independence.
- At least 4 years in ML, statistics, NLP, and LLMs, including generative AI, agentic architectures, prompt engineering, and evaluating LLM performance across foundation models.
- 4+ years building and deploying production AI systems, including model integration, API development, and cloud based infrastructure.
- 4+ years of Python programming with a focus on clean, well tested, production quality code.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related quantitative field.
