Machine Learning Engineer
Job Description
Neuralink’s BCI team is building machine learning systems that turn neural signals into practical, user-facing capabilities. This onsite Machine Learning Engineer role in Austin, TX supports both product development for neural decoding and research aimed at restoring vision.
You will develop and apply signal processing and machine learning models, including neural encoders and decoders, to advance brain-computer interface technologies. The work spans reliable typing and robotic arm control for individuals with paralysis, as well as research directions focused on vision restoration.
Responsibilities
- Develop and refine models that decode neural data, supporting typing at 35 words per minute for individuals with paralysis and enabling robotic arm control for activities of daily living.
- Define research questions that guide the design of neural networks and signal processing algorithms for restoring vision in people affected by blindness.
- Apply a foundation in neural networks and data science to create core models that serve as a basis for machine learning applications for BCI.
- Lead by example through high standards for how systems are built and operated.
- Contribute to the hardware roadmap by understanding users and identifying product features expected to have the greatest impact on quality of life.
Requirements
- Experience writing production-level C/C++/Rust and Python.
- Proven track record designing, building, and shipping real-time ML products.
- Strong foundation in signal processing, algorithms, and software engineering principles.
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
Technologies
