Senior Machine Learning Engineer

The Senior Machine Learning Engineer will drive technical execution to convert emerging AI ideas into reliable, large-scale capabilities for production use. This hybrid role is based in Providence, RI, with a focus on generative AI, semantic search, retrieval frameworks, and multi-step agent workflows.

Role Summary

In this position, you will lead hands-on development efforts and provide technical direction for AI product components that help professionals find, assess, and apply complex information more effectively. The scope includes building retrieval pipelines, orchestrating agents, and delivering supporting infrastructure for generative AI systems.

Responsibilities

• Deliver 100% hands-on technical contributions
• Build and release AI features that improve how professionals discover, evaluate, and use complex information
• Design scalable services and shared infrastructure for distributed machine learning applications
• Implement retrieval pipelines, agent orchestration, and supporting components for generative AI products
• Collaborate with application, cloud, data, and security teams to satisfy performance, reliability, and governance requirements

Required Qualifications

• Extensive experience designing and delivering applied machine learning solutions
• Demonstrated ability to build systems powered by large language models and AI agents
• Strong understanding of retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), embeddings, and vector-based search
• Experience supporting model delivery using MLOps tooling and production practices
• Advanced Python programming ability
• Experience deploying cloud-native services with AWS and Kubernetes
• Prior experience in legal technology, knowledge management, publishing, or another information-rich industry
• 12+ years of software development experience, or 8+ years plus a doctorate
• Degree in computer science, machine learning, engineering, or a comparable technical field
