Hatch is seeking a Senior Vehicle Electrical Engineer to join the North American Infrastructure division, Vehicle Electrical group, based in the Boston area. With more than 65 years of experience in mining, energy, and infrastructure, Hatch employs about 10,000 professionals across 150 countries who deliver practical, safe, innovative, and sustainable solutions. The Infrastructure practice covers aviation, highways and bridges, planning and advisory services, ports, rail and transit, tunnels and water. Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering
- Minimum of 10 years of professional experience in rail vehicle electrical systems design and maintenance, including streetcars, LRVs, heavy rail transit cars, commuter cars, and locomotives
- Transit Authority engineering and maintenance experience is a plus
- Solid grounding in core electrical engineering concepts including analog and digital circuit design, power engineering, networking/telecommunications, AC/DC motor theory, control systems, and software development EMI/EMC
- Familiarity with industry standards such as APTA, FRA, IEEE, IEC/EN, NFPA and related rail vehicle standards
- Excellent analytical, written and oral communication skills; strong teamwork abilities
- Professional Engineer (PE) registration is desirable but not required
- Domestic and international travel is required
Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop technical specifications and conceptual designs for new and upgraded rail vehicles and on-board systems
- Participate in design review meetings and technical sessions with car builders and equipment suppliers
- Review electrical and electro-mechanical designs and prepare detailed review findings
- Lead or participate in new equipment qualification at supplier facilities and on trains, including functional testing, electrical performance, environmental testing, and electromagnetic compatibility
- Prepare and review rail vehicle and on-board systems test procedures
- Engage in hands-on engineering work with rail transit vehicles, including testing, equipment malfunction investigations, and condition assessments
- Mentor and educate junior engineers

Compensation
Base Compensation: $150,000 - $175,000. Actual compensation is subject to variation based on education, experience, skillset and location.
