Hargrove and Associates, Inc is seeking a Project Engineer in Houston, onsite, to provide technical leadership on projects and support the Project Manager in managing cost, schedule, and client satisfaction. This role centers on multi-discipline coordination and timely engineering deliverables, demanding strong technical insight and the ability to collaborate with clients and cross-functional teams. A Master of Science in Engineering and a track record of practical engineering leadership are essential for success in this role.
Responsibilities
- Keep the Project Manager informed of all technical issues, decisions, and problems encountered on the project.
- Coordinate with the client on technical design issues.
- Work with the Project Management Team (PM, Construction Manager, Procurement Manager, Quality Manager, and Project Controls Lead) to address execution issues.
- Assist the Project Manager in managing engineering budgets and schedules, and in identifying, estimating, and documenting changes in scope.
- Provide weekly and monthly reports on engineering status and issues.
- Plan, schedule, and forecast engineering resources with Project Discipline Leads and Department Resource Leaders.
- Maintain discipline-specific awareness of man-hours and estimate bases, TIC quantities, and tracking against these to recognize scope changes as the project progresses.
- Develop or facilitate project-specific engineering and design procedures, obtaining approvals if deviating from Client or Hargrove procedures.
- Coordinate engineering input for documents defining the project scope, such as Scope & Criteria documents and Engineering Execution Plans supporting the PEP.
- Ensure timely completion of multi-discipline deliverables, including Line List, Equipment List, Area Classification Drawings, Post-IFD P&ID updates, and General Arrangement Drawings, with regular master reviews.
- Lead inter-discipline coordination by resolving design issues between disciplines.
- For 3D modeling projects, regularly review the model to assess timely inter-discipline coordination, cross-discipline loss prevention considerations, clash detection and resolution, and overall consistency; approve transmittals prior to issue.
- Ensure overall quality control of engineering work.
Requirements
- Knowledge of Hargrove project execution procedures.
- Familiarity with company business standards, good practices, engineering standards, and project controls tools.
- Ability to lead a team to deliver on commitments.
- Comprehensive understanding of the functions of all engineering disciplines, procurement, and construction processes.
- Proven proficiency in coordinating and resolving complex technical issues.
- Ability to manage client relationships in complex situations and relate effectively to customers, suppliers, contractors, and professional associations.
- Capability to handle stress calmly and delegate authority appropriately.
- Strong communication skills to clearly set expectations and accountability within the team.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to set priorities; coaching and mentoring experience is valued.
- Outstanding listening, verbal, and written communication, as well as strong presentation skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.

Ideal Background
- Education: Bachelor or Master of Science in Engineering from an accredited university is required.
- Registration: Professional Engineering and/or Project Management Professional (PMP) registration is highly preferred.
- Experience: 5+ years of relevant experience in engineering and project management.
