The Product Design Engineer provides engineering support for new part development and drives improvements in quality, technology, and production output. The role is accountable for design, fabrication, cost, and supply needs across designated product lines, with a focus on accurate documentation and support for manufacturability.
Key Responsibilities
- Create new parts and revise existing parts to meet customer specifications.
- Enter routings and bill of materials (BOMs) into the ERP system.
- Maintain existing routings and BOMs so they remain updated and accurate.
- Debug fit, form, and/or function issues related to the product.
- Train Sefar personnel on manufacturing techniques.
- Develop product-line knowledge of materials, manufacturing methods, tooling, and design requirements.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at achieving the lowest manufacturing cost while maintaining or improving quality.
- Assist the Quality Department with investigations and corrective actions for customer complaints.
- Conduct testing on both new and existing products.
- Provide technical support functions for internal teams and external customers.
- Collaborate with customers, sales, marketing, and/or engineers on product design.
- Assist manufacturing with process optimization.
- Perform product estimating activities to determine manufacturing costs.
- Prepare internal documentation to support project planning and design concepts, including materials yield estimates, BOM and design router details, and design and tooling and/or production drawings.
- Account for product details that influence cost estimates, such as special packaging, shipping costs, and tooling.
- Understand, utilize, and improve Sefar policies and procedures as needed to complete related tasks.
- Complete other assignments as directed by Management.
- Management retains the right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities at any time.
Scope of the Position
The role delivers engineering expertise that supports new part creation and improvement initiatives focused on quality, technology, and production output. Responsibilities include coordinating with sales on quoting and part design, such as generating CAD drawings, creating work instructions, and defining manufacturing operations, while supporting customer expectations and ensuring labor and material efficiencies. The position also contributes to product manufacturability, process flow, and material utilization, working with operators and equipment to improve processes and meet or exceed production goals.
Required Qualifications
- Four-year technical degree in an Engineering discipline or Industrial Technology.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to use CAD, Microsoft Office applications, IBM Notes, Infor LN (ERP), and a Windows operating environment.
- Knowledge of industrial filtration, technical fabrics, sewing, slitting, and/or web converting is beneficial.

Compensation
Salary: USD 50,000 to 75,000 per year.

Travel and Work Location
- Travel may be required to facilitate training activities, project work, and customer support, expected to be less than 10% of the time.
