Join Dansources Technical Services as an Associate Distribution Engineer in Asheville, NC (onsite). This role is built for engineers who want hands-on experience across both field inspections and office-based design. You’ll develop engineering work packages for overhead and underground electrical distribution projects while working under a technical lead, with training provided in customer engineering and construction standards.
What you’ll work on
Under supervision of a technical lead, you will help create design and construction work packages for electrical distribution systems operating from 4 kV through 138 kV. Projects are closely tied to programmatic work such as overloaded transformers, inspection and maintenance, joint use, and inspection reports. You’ll also support permitting and construction activities, including post-construction reviews.
- Develop work packages for overhead (OH), underground (UG), underground residential distribution (URD), make-ready, and street light projects using customer GIS and work management systems.
- Perform engineering calculations, including:
- Structural analysis for wood pole loading
- Guying calculations
- Conductor sag and tension specifications for recommended spans
- Voltage drop and flicker calculations
- Create permitting documents for Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs).
- Travel to job sites for inspections, then return to the office to complete engineering design work.
- Provide construction support, including post-construction reviews to verify engineering and construction standards have been met.
- Conduct root cause analysis of outages and develop mitigation using engineering principles and design.
