AI Engineer
Job Description
Yale New Haven Health is seeking an AI Engineer to lead technical design, coordinate project components, and provide guidance across ITS teams throughout the systems development lifecycle. This onsite role in Stratford, CT requires a strong foundation in software engineering and analytics to shape AI-powered solutions within a complex clinical environment.

Experience
Minimum eight years of experience in programming and analytical activities, including at least four years in analytical roles, with exposure to online, real-time, and database environments. Healthcare experience is preferred.
Education
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related disciplines, or equivalent technical training and work experience, including coursework in systems analysis and design, DBMS, screen design techniques, forms design, data gathering, and oral and written communication.
Responsibilities
- Direct a team of analysts and programmers in developing and supporting automated and manual systems, offering technical guidance on analytical tasks.
- Coordinate projects that involve members from multiple departments to achieve aligned objectives.
- Assess requests for system development and enhancements to determine feasibility and impact.
- Analyze the feasibility of client requests, including data analysis and resource identification.
- Conduct needs analysis by observing current environments and reviewing existing documentation, manuals, forms, and related materials.
- Identify problems and work toward effective solutions.
- Collaborate with users and the ITS Team Lead to define and document current and future business needs.
- Review vendor documentation about changes and upgrades to inform implementation plans.
- Document detailed design specifications and participate in the production and conversion planning to ensure a smooth transition to the new environment; design input/output formats, screens, and reports with application owners and leadership.
- Investigate reported problems and pursue timely resolutions.
- Design interfaces between users and systems, encompassing both automated and manual interfaces.
- Provide tools and guidance to clinical systems analysts to enhance problem solving and knowledge.
- Develop test data and/or test protocols to validate new or updated systems.
- Urgent incidents are acknowledged within one hour and resolved within six hours.
- Develop user and ITS procedure manuals to standardize operations.
- Monitor progress against plans and generate management reports as required.
- Offer technical guidance to the ITS team and lead plans for the maintenance and development of assigned systems.
- Analyze outside software for compliance with ITS guidelines and recommend acquisitions when appropriate.
- Help determine the scope of project activities and processes to be developed or modified and propose technical programming approaches for complex applications.
- Create program specifications, flowcharts, and decision tables to translate into code for complex programs.
- Specify and arrange test data, coordinate test processing for newly developed systems, and troubleshoot testing errors.
- Develop or assist in building the most complex programming routines and functions based on detailed design and user needs.
- Provide input for formal cost estimates, timelines, and human resources required to develop or modify systems.
- Develop performance metrics and a formal performance statement for new or modified systems, outlining key processes and functional segments.
- Perform duties in alignment with MIS standards and may initiate further standards as needed.
- Contribute to the I Am Yale-New Haven service excellence program and uphold the organization’s mission, vision, values, and department competencies, fostering positive cross-team relationships.
- Perform other job-related duties as required.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related disciplines, or equivalent technical training and work experience with relevant coursework in systems analysis, DBMS, screen and forms design, data gathering, and communication.
- Eight or more years of experience in diverse programming and analytical activities, including at least four years in analytical roles; healthcare environment experience is a plus.
- Current driver's license and an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to work independently, meet deadlines with minimal supervision, handle multiple tasks, communicate effectively, solve problems, and develop creative solutions; escalate issues as needed.
- Proven ability to operate under tight time constraints and manage time effectively.
