Job Description
M. A. Mortenson Company is hiring an AI Engineer to build, test, and deploy AI solutions that improve decision-making, automate workflows, and generate enterprise value. The role bridges AI models with enterprise systems and field applications, supported by aligned data models and data architecture.
Role Summary
The AI Engineer will develop AI solutions that enhance capabilities across the enterprise and project teams. Responsibilities include integrating AI into business-ready systems, translating business requirements into usable AI deliverables, and defining data models that align with business needs and the organization’s data architecture.
Location and Work Style
This position is based in Minnesota with a hybrid work arrangement.
Salary
The base pay range for this role is USD 85,300 - 128,000 per year. Actual range is higher for certain office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL (5%), Seattle, WA and Portland, OR (10%), and Washington, D.C. (12.5%). If applicable, the position is eligible for Mortenson’s incentive plan.
Key Responsibilities
- Test and evaluate AI solutions and functionalities within and beyond enterprise solutions
- Translate business requirements into business-ready AI solutions
- Collaborate with business partners by presenting goals, objectives, and findings to non-technical audiences to support innovation aligned with the organization’s R&D efforts
- Work with structured and unstructured data from construction platforms, such as Procore and Autodesk
- Partner with Data Solutions to apply reusable components and pipelines that support scalable AI solutions for team members, including support for domain experts across ITS and operations
- Ensure AI solutions meet Mortenson’s standards for security, privacy, and responsible use
- Work effectively and build relationships across diverse backgrounds and organizational levels
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field
- 2+ years of experience in AI/ML engineering or applied data science
- Experience with LLMs, multimodal models, or generative AI (examples include Azure AI Foundry and Google Vertex)
- Familiarity with agent frameworks, agentic workflows, and knowledge graph (preferred)
- Strong proficiency in Python, ML frameworks, PowerBI, and data tools
- Exposure to enterprise construction platforms or solutions (examples include Procore, Autodesk, Oracle)
- Active listening skills and effective communication, including openness to diverse input and feedback
- Ability to travel up to 15%
