AI Engineer III
Job Description
Deloitte is hiring an AI Engineer III for the HC Forward team in Denver, CO (onsite). In this delivery-focused role, you will design, build, and operate trusted, governed data, feature, and retrieval layers that power Human Capital AI and GenAI solutions. You will work across production pipelines and services for model training, real-time inference, and LLM applications, with an emphasis on governance, observability, and cost/performance discipline.
What you’ll do
- Collaborate with the Lead AI Solutions Architect and AI Data Engineer to translate Human Capital product needs into secure, scalable technical designs, delivering APIs, services, pipelines, and container or serverless solutions that meet availability, performance, and security expectations.
- Build and operationalize LLM-enabled capabilities such as copilots, HR knowledge assistants, summarization, and policy Q&A using Claude, GPT (Codex), and Gemini, including secure endpoints, tool or function calling, and reusable prompt and context patterns.
- Implement LLM application patterns using RAG, document ingestion and chunking, embeddings, and vector or hybrid search, along with retrieval and evaluation telemetry.
- Deliver governed datasets plus feature engineering and serving for ML training and real-time inference, including online and offline consistency, caching, latency SLOs, and backfills.
- Implement safety, privacy, and access controls such as PII handling, prompt-injection defenses, content filtering, and policy-based access in partnership with security and risk stakeholders.
- Drive data and model reliability and cost-performance discipline through data quality, schema evolution, lineage and metadata, monitoring, right-sizing, query tuning, and LLM token or cost telemetry.
- Contribute to MLOps and LLMOps and production operations, including versioning, reproducibility, CI/CD, automated testing, observability, incident response, and support design reviews, deployment readiness, and runbooks.
Required qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field (for example: Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, or Data Science).
- 4+ years building and delivering LLM and GenAI solutions with Claude, GPT (Codex), and Gemini-class models, including prompt and context design, tool or function calling, evaluation, and production integration.
- 4+ years implementing retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) and retrieval, including document processing, embeddings, vector or hybrid search, and enterprise governance controls.
- 4+ years modern data and AI engineering, including data modeling; batch and streaming pipelines; structured and unstructured processing; feature engineering and serving fundamentals; and production real-time inference services with API design plus latency, performance, and reliability patterns.
- 4+ years leading platform and integration engineering across enterprise systems, including API or integration experience with REST, GraphQL, event-driven architecture, microservices, and middleware.
- 4+ years DevOps or DevSecOps experience, including CI/CD, infrastructure as code (IaC) such as Terraform or CloudFormation, Docker or Kubernetes, and observability or monitoring.
- 4+ years leading security and compliance efforts, including enterprise controls such as IAM, encryption, secrets, and audit logging; and data or privacy controls such as PII, retention, and access controls.
- Ability to travel 0–25% on average, based on work and client and industry needs.
- Limited immigration sponsorship may be available.
