Applied AI Engineer

The Central AI team at Millennium Management is hiring an Applied AI Engineer in New York to build and deploy agentic process automation, prediction and decision-support models, and document and entity intelligence systems. This role embeds with business teams to deliver end-to-end solutions, from initial discovery through deployment and iteration.

Role Focus

You will develop agentic workflows that automate undocumented processes, create prediction and decision-support capabilities using firm data, and build document and entity intelligence pipelines. A key part of the work is partnering directly with business stakeholders to scope problems comprehensively, then owning architecture, evaluation, and ongoing improvement.

Key Responsibilities

• Agentic process automation: reverse-engineer manual and undocumented workflows and build reliable agents that execute them, including tool integrations, orchestration, human-in-the-loop checkpoints, state management, and auditability.
• Prediction and decision-support modeling: develop forecasting, anomaly detection, ranking, matching, and classification models over years of accumulated firm data, with appropriate validation and monitoring.
• Document intelligence pipelines: create systems for extraction, classification, and review across contracts, filings, emails, and transcripts.
• Entity intelligence and self-improving systems: build knowledge graphs, entity resolution, enrichment pipelines, and eval and feedback loops that improve deployed systems over time.
• Embedded execution with business teams: engage in end-to-end ownership, from the initial conversation through architecture, deployment, evaluation, and iteration.
• Reusable firm-wide capabilities: convert proven solutions into reusable capabilities across the broader organization.

Required Qualifications

• 3+ years shipping production software, ML, or AI systems (exceptionally strong builders may be considered; impact matters more than tenure).
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related quantitative discipline.
• Strong Python and engineering fundamentals, with prototypes that can become production products others build on.
• Hands-on LLM and agentic experience, including tool use, orchestration, structured outputs, retrieval, evals, and judgment about what agents can reliably perform.
• Supervised ML depth, including training, validation, feature engineering, and awareness of pitfalls such as leakage, overfitting, and drift.
• Ability to work with messy, heterogeneous data and unfamiliar domains, becoming functionally fluent within days and earning credibility with subject-matter experts.
• Autonomy to embed with teams such as a trader’s team or a CFO’s team, understand their domain, and build without waiting for a full specification.

Millennium Management offers a total compensation package consisting of base salary, a discretionary performance bonus, and comprehensive benefits. The estimated base salary range is specific to New York and may change in the future. Final offers account for the candidate’s experience level and qualifications.

About the Central AI Team

Central AI operates within Millennium’s Information Technology organization, where flexible and scalable technology and advanced proprietary systems support the health and growth of the business. The team has a broad mandate to apply AI across functions that run the firm, including business development, alpha capture, execution services, risk management, finance, operations and middle office, legal, compliance, and recruiting.

When a business team identifies a problem AI can solve, Central AI determines the appropriate approach and ships the solution. You will own the workflow from conversation to architecture, deployment, evaluation, and iteration, then turn what works into reusable capabilities. Finance experience is not required, and the role emphasizes rapid agent deployment and analysis on edge cases rather than focusing only on narrowly selected projects.
