Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning Engineer - Associate

iCapital is building production-grade AI that supports real business outcomes in a FinTech environment. In this hybrid role in New York, NY, you will help design, implement, evaluate, and operate AI capabilities delivered as APIs and services, working closely with senior engineers and cross-functional partners. You will also bring an engineering mindset to full life cycle ownership, from scoping and prototyping through deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement.

What you will do

• Design and implement modular AI capabilities, including LLM-based reasoning, document intelligence (OCR/IDP), intelligent knowledge systems, and agentic orchestration to support internal and external workflow automation.
• Own parts of the full AI system life cycle to drive measurable business outcomes, including scoping, POC, solution design, model development, deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement in production.
• Build evaluation pipelines for AI systems by defining statistically sound, problem-specific metrics, creating and curating benchmark datasets, and enforcing dataset and model versioning for reproducibility.
• Collaborate across teams and communicate results through documentation, write-ups, and handoffs.

What you bring

• 2-3 years of relevant experience, including hands-on development of production AI/ML systems.
• Exposure to AWS or cloud-native development patterns for AI/ML workloads, plus familiarity with AI development life cycle best practices.
• Strong proficiency in Python.
• Solid fundamentals in statistics and exploratory data analysis, with the ability to reason about data quality, experiments, and error patterns.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to document work and collaborate effectively.
• Experience with modern LLM tooling (transformers, unsloth, vLLM, agentic frameworks) or document AI approaches such as IDP.
• Familiarity with software development best practices including source control, CI/CD, testing, and documentation, and experience working through a complete development lifecycle.
• Knowledge of agentic communication protocols (such as MCP or A2A) is a plus.

Compensation and schedule

Salary: USD 100,000 - 130,000 per year.

Work model: Employees in this role work in the office Monday–Thursday, with flexibility to work remotely on Friday.
