Job Description
Bring pharmaceutical data engineering into the future. This onsite/hybrid role at MSD in West Point, PA focuses on modernizing how clinical and commercial supply chain teams access data, moving beyond traditional BI toward a scalable data foundation, advanced automation, and agentic AI workflows. You will help design end-to-end data pipelines and analytics-ready architectures, prototype data-driven web applications, and translate stakeholder needs into clear technical specifications.
What you’ll do
- Design, build, and implement modern data foundations and pipelines to deliver solutions aligned to business needs.
- Use technologies such as Databricks, Python, and Agentic AI to manage data and generate advanced insights.
- Develop custom WebApps to support Proof-of-Concept initiatives, with solutions later industrialized in the React Platform.
- Streamline processes by eliminating manual work through advanced automation and machine learning.
- Contribute to the Data Strategy and Strategic Roadmap, supporting a transition to future-ready systems and intelligent data architectures.
- Build and optimize scalable data pipelines and architectures using Databricks, Python, Dataverse, and advanced SQL, transforming operational data from SAP, MES, LIMS, and related sources across drug substance and drug product manufacturing and supply operations into analytics-ready foundations.
- Serve as a bridge between business and technology by translating stakeholder requirements into technical specifications, partnering with supply chain planners, quality teams, and manufacturing stakeholders.
- Design, test, and implement agentic AI workflows and machine learning models to automate decision-making and generate proactive business insights.
- Develop and deploy user-friendly WebApps that support business operations, data entry, and interactions with underlying data models.
- Manage code using VS Code, AI coding assistants such as Cline, and GitHub with robust version control practices for scripts, applications, and data models.
- Work with data architects to ensure secure, scalable data models that support both analytical and transactional workloads.
- Document processes, code, data models, and system architectures, and provide training and technical support as new technologies roll out.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of relevant industrial/pharmaceutical or data engineering experience.
- Strong expertise in Python and advanced SQL.
- Deep, hands-on experience with the Databricks Lakehouse architecture, Delta Lake, and Unity Catalog for data governance.
- Proven experience building custom data products and rapid-prototype front ends (for example, Streamlit/React).
- Familiarity with SAP (or similar ERP/manufacturing systems) as a primary source for complex supply chain and manufacturing data.
- Proven ability to gather complex requirements from non-technical stakeholders and translate them into actionable technical roadmaps.
- Familiarity with or strong interest in Agentic Modeling, Large Language Models (LLMs), and integrating AI agents into workflows (for example, Copilot Studio).
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments using Jira Cloud and maintaining multi-system documentation with Confluence.
- Comfort working in VS Code and using AI-assisted coding tools to accelerate development.
- Strong experience with GitHub for version control, PR-based collaboration, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for complex data challenges.
- Ability to develop trust-based relationships to drive change across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate technical concepts across global audiences.
- Independent decision-making with a proactive approach to leading projects and delivering results.
