Cyber Security Engineer

Holtec offers an opportunity to help strengthen cybersecurity across engineering and project work while staying connected to a mission-driven, cross-functional team. This onsite role in Buchanan, NY supports development, implementation, and maintenance of the organization’s cybersecurity program through assessments, documentation, and collaboration with engineering disciplines, vendors, and project stakeholders.

Compensation: $105,000 to $125,000 annually, based on skills and experience.

How you will contribute

• Perform cybersecurity assessments of engineering design documentation, digital systems, and related technical materials to identify cybersecurity risks, vulnerabilities, threat vectors, and appropriate security controls.
• Support integration of cybersecurity requirements and security controls into system design, engineering, and project activities.
• Develop and maintain cybersecurity procedures, technical reports, assessments, and program documentation to support ongoing program objectives.
• Evaluate engineering designs and technical documentation for compliance with applicable regulations, standards, and industry best practices.
• Research cybersecurity technologies, emerging threats, and evolving industry guidance to inform program priorities.
• Maintain cybersecurity documentation and records aligned with configuration management and quality assurance processes.
• Coordinate with engineering organizations, vendors, and project stakeholders to support cybersecurity program activities.
• Complete other duties as assigned.

What you bring

• Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Internship, co-op, academic research, project-based experience, or up to 2 years of professional experience in cybersecurity, information technology, engineering, or a related technical field.
• Basic understanding of cybersecurity principles, including threat identification, vulnerability assessment, risk management, and security controls.
• Familiarity with networking concepts, operating systems, and digital system architectures.
• Knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks and standards such as NIST and ISA/IEC 62443 (or similar guidance).
• Ability to interpret technical documentation including engineering drawings, system diagrams, and specifications.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and standard business software tools.

Preferred experience

• Experience supporting cybersecurity assessments or security compliance initiatives.
• Familiarity with industrial control systems (ICS), operational technology (OT), or engineering environments.
• Experience preparing technical reports, assessments, or cybersecurity documentation.
• Knowledge of cybersecurity requirements in highly regulated industries such as energy, nuclear, manufacturing, or critical infrastructure.
• Experience working with engineering teams, project stakeholders, or technology vendors to support secure system design and implementation.
