Job Description
Technical Cybersecurity Engineering role within DHS Cybersecurity Service, onsite in Chandler, AZ, supporting positions such as Cybersecurity Engineer, Information Security Analyst, Network Engineer, and Lead Software Developer.
Responsibilities
- Design and integrate software, hardware, and system engineering approaches to create new capabilities and enhance existing ones, ensuring alignment with security objectives and governance.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and propose approaches to incorporate them to meet cybersecurity requirements, applying them to cloud, mobile, and other evolving business processes.
- Develop practical solutions with full lifecycle cost, procurement, program management, and budgeting considerations.
- Define engineering requirements and ensure interoperability across internal and external systems.
- Support DHS leadership in decisions and actions related to cybersecurity design and deployment.
- Research and assess current technologies to understand system capabilities and provide system security consultation and engineering to owners, system owners, and developers.
- Coordinate security processes within the department's lifecycle management and governance framework.
- Apply cybersecurity functions such as encryption, access control, and identity management to reduce exploitation opportunities.
- Collaborate with systems architects and developers to oversee design solutions, system security controls, and countermeasures, including designing and developing new cybersecurity tools and technologies.
- Perform risk analyses, feasibility studies, and trade-off analyses to develop, document, and refine functional requirements and establish technical security configuration baselines.
Requirements
- U.S. Citizen or national.
- 18 years of age or older.
- If male, must be registered for the Selective Service.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance; clearance levels may vary.
- Must be able to pass a drug test with a negative result.
- Must comply with ethics and standards of conduct requirements, including applicable financial disclosure.
- May be required to complete a 3 year probationary period.
- 5 to 15 years of cybersecurity work experience.
- Experience ranges from hands-on cybersecurity professionals applying technical expertise and independent judgment to federal cybersecurity authorities with advanced expertise advising on DHS and national challenges.
- Proven ability to perform software, hardware, and systems engineering with secure integration into security objectives.
- Demonstrated understanding of strategic risk, considering the impact of breaches or vulnerabilities across engineering processes.
- Stays current on emerging technologies and their applications to cloud and mobile environments to identify and recommend methods for meeting organizational cybersecurity requirements.

- Salary: USD 106,700 - 214,500 per year.
- Salary ranges by role within the DHS Cybersecurity Service: Senior Cybersecurity Specialist 106,700 - 138,000; Staff Cybersecurity Specialist 129,700 - 163,000; Principal Cybersecurity Specialist 154,600 - 196,500; Senior Principal Cybersecurity Specialist 170,600 - 214,500.
