Data Engineer

Join EXL Service in Philadelphia, PA (onsite) to help strengthen and evolve enterprise data platforms for a telecom client. In this Data Engineering role, you will focus on reliable ETL operations, platform performance, and continuous improvements that support high-quality data delivery across business and technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Improve stability and availability of enterprise data platforms by owning ETL operations, providing infrastructure support, managing stakeholder requests, and optimizing processes.
• Oversee daily ETL workflows, troubleshoot production issues, conduct root cause analysis (RCA), and implement preventive fixes to reduce recurrence.
• Evaluate technical requirements and code changes, test and deploy enhancements, and coordinate with vendors and upstream teams when source system changes are introduced.
• Track database and server performance, capacity, and resource utilization, addressing bottlenecks and operational risks before they impact delivery.
• Maintain operational documentation and manage client communications, including status updates, stakeholder alignment, and timely risk escalation.

Requirements

• 3-5 years of experience in Data Engineering, Analytics Engineering, ETL Development, or a related field.
• Strong hands-on SQL experience, including support for production ETL workloads.
• Proven background in ETL operations, production support, incident management, and root cause analysis.
• Solid understanding of database performance tuning, server resource management, and capacity planning; SQL Server experience is a plus.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively with client teams and navigate ambiguity.
