Distinguished AI Engineer
Job Description
Capital One is building responsible, scalable AI systems that help improve experiences for both customers and associates. As a Distinguished AI Engineer on the Intelligent Foundations and Experiences (IFX) team, you will help translate AI research and engineering best practices into end-to-end production capabilities, including foundational AI and LLM tooling.
What you’ll do
- Collaborate with engineers, research scientists, technical program managers, and product managers to deliver AI-powered products that shape how associates work and how customers interact with Capital One.
- Design, develop, test, deploy, and support AI software components across the full lifecycle, including foundation model training, large language model inference, similarity search, guardrails, model evaluation, experimentation, governance, and observability.
- Build solutions using a broad mix of Open Source and SaaS AI technologies, including AWS Ultraclusters, Huggingface, VectorDBs, Nemo Guardrails, PyTorch, and more.
- Introduce state-of-the-art LLM optimization techniques to improve production performance across scalability, cost, latency, and throughput.
- Contribute to the technical vision and long term roadmap for foundational AI systems at Capital One.
What you bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, AI, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field plus at least 8 years of experience developing AI and ML algorithms or technologies, or a Master’s degree plus at least 6 years of experience developing AI and ML algorithms or technologies.
- At least 8 years of programming experience with Python, Go, Scala, or Java.

Salary and location
Location: McLean, VA (onsite)
Salary: USD 269,100 - 307,200 per year
Compensation is location-based. Candidates hired for other locations will be offered the pay range associated with that location, and the annualized salary amount is reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.
