FMS Defensive Cybersecurity Engineer, Mid

This mid level role supports Booz Allen Hamilton’s defense-focused cybersecurity initiatives in San Diego, providing hands-on deployment of interoperable SOC stacks, partner capability development, and mentorship for international security cooperation efforts.

Responsibilities

• Lead the deployment of interoperable SOC stacks through hands-on installation and tuning of SIEM, SOAR, and XDR solutions within partner environments.
• Ensure platforms are optimized for real-time data sharing and seamless integration with U.S. defensive frameworks.
• Design and implement technical train-the-trainer programs to grow partner capability.
• Collaborate closely with partner nation engineers to transfer advanced skills in threat hunting, incident response, and SOC management in alignment with the NICE Framework.
• Architect log ingestion and data integration pipelines that normalize multi-source intelligence to support a shared, high-fidelity Common Operational Picture (COP).
• Build and manage cloud-based virtual cyber ranges and integrated Learning Management Systems (LMS).
• Create digital environments where partner forces can safely simulate adversarial TTPs and validate tactical proficiency.
• Lead the rollout of Zero Trust controls, including identity management and micro-segmentation, enabling secure collaboration while protecting national security.
• Spearhead cyber range solutions for emulated environments, delivering range infrastructure and real-time mentorship to mature partner response capabilities under combat-speed conditions.
• Provide technical advisory for procurement by conducting in-depth evaluations of cyber solutions to ensure partners acquire DoD-compatible technology aligned with operational requirements and workforce maturity.

Requirements

• Minimum 3 years of cybersecurity engineering experience, including deploying technical solutions in support of DoD or international security cooperation.
• Experience configuring SIEM and XDR platforms and managing virtualized lab environments (VMware, AWS, or Azure).
• Ability to translate complex technical concepts into structured training and performance-based evaluations for broad audiences.
• Secret clearance.
• Bachelor’s degree.
• Information Assurance Management (IAM), Information Assurance Technical (IAT), or Information Assurance System Architect and Engineer (IASAE) Level I DoD 8570.1M certification.

Clearance

Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. A Secret clearance is required.

Compensation

The projected annualized salary range for this position is USD 69,300 to USD 158,000. Booz Allen determines compensation based on factors including location, education, knowledge, skills, competencies, experience, contract-specific considerations, and organizational requirements.
