Machine Learning Engineer

Build scalable evaluation systems for personalized agentic search that power experiences across Siri and Apple products. This onsite role in Cupertino, CA supports the Agentic Search Evaluation team by creating automated data generation, quality assessment, and measurement frameworks that connect model performance to product outcomes.

What you’ll do

• Develop scalable, automated end-to-end evaluation systems for large-scale models and search-powered applications.
• Design and implement data generation approaches and data quality assessment methods for personal agentic search modeling and evaluation.
• Create offline and online metrics to evaluate quality at both product and component levels for personal agentic search.
• Work with partner teams to set data and evaluation requirements and priorities, and to identify opportunities to improve the personal search stack.
• Shape a long-term technical vision for personal search quality by identifying key problem areas and driving solutions in support of a broader roadmap.

What you bring

• Experience designing and building production ML systems and applications in search, NLP, recommendation systems, or information retrieval.
• Experience with data collection, data generation, and/or data quality assessment for language, image, or multi-modal data.
• Strong capability in quality metrics development, including evaluation interpretation and the ability to present results to an executive audience.
• 6+ years of industry experience building machine learning or ML evaluation systems at scale.
• Advanced proficiency in mainstream programming languages such as Python and C/C++.
• Ability to prototype ideas quickly and perform critical analysis.
• Strong communication skills and experience driving solutions in collaboration with partner teams.
• Education: Bachelors in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, or related field, and an advanced degree (Master’s or Ph.D.) in a related field, or equivalent industry work experience.

Pay & benefits

The base pay range for this role is $184,700 to $324,800 per year. The position also offers the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within the role.
