Job Description

Northrop Grumman is hiring a Principal/Sr. Principal Electronics Engineer - Mission Systems to help shape mission system technical baselines and inform platform requirements through rigorous trade studies, analysis, and modeling. This full-time, onsite role in San Diego, CA offers a comprehensive compensation package and benefits, including savings and paid time off, plus travel as needed for mission objectives.

What you will do

  • Design mission systems technical baselines spanning subsystems, components, and software to meet platform requirements.
  • Lead trade studies and technical analysis, including modeling and simulation, to support platform decisions.
  • Manage risk and opportunity activities and support strategic objectives for mission systems.
  • Decompose system-level requirements and track and report metrics, while maintaining strong relationships across customers, suppliers, peers, and leadership.
  • Drive mission system element design and capability assessment, including interface decomposition and verification/validation planning.
  • Support mission integration during development, including work across mission effects, data, or capabilities.
  • Perform subsystem trades and analysis of alternatives using modeling and simulation, including areas such as air vehicles, payloads, ground segments, mission planning, CONOPS, DRM, system security, and interfaces.
  • Engage customers and end users to translate requirements into deployable products.
  • Support technical business development efforts such as proposals and white papers.

Education and experience requirements

Principal Electronics Engineer:

  • Bachelor’s in a STEM discipline (accredited university) and 5 years related professional/military experience in Engineering; OR
  • Master’s in a STEM discipline (accredited university) and 3 years related professional/military experience in Engineering; OR
  • Ph.D. and 1 year related professional/military experience in Engineering.

Sr. Principal Electronics Engineer:

  • Bachelor’s in a STEM discipline (accredited university) and 8 years related professional/military experience in Engineering; OR
  • Master’s in a STEM discipline (accredited university) and 6 years related professional/military experience in Engineering; OR
  • Ph.D. and 4 years related professional/military experience in Engineering.

Additional qualifications

  • Experience supporting Supplier SSOW, SRD, and scope discussions.
  • Significant experience in at least two of the following:
    • Technical leadership on DoD development projects
    • System architecture concepts/solutions
    • Performance modeling & simulation
    • Designing systems with COTS/GOTS components for DoD interoperability RF or EO/IR systems for sensing, EW, or communications
    • Non-kinetic effects (cyber operations)
    • DoD cyber requirements, RMF, and solutions
    • Identifying/managing system capabilities and producing architecture artifacts
    • Preparing/reviewing architecture d (as provided in posting)
  • Active US Government Secret Clearance (with a background investigation within the past 6 years or enrolled into Continuous Evaluation).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance within a reasonable amount of time as determined by business needs.

Location, travel, and work setting

  • Location: San Diego, CA (onsite)
  • Travel: Yes, 25% of the Time
  • Work setting: Full-time, onsite at the facility. No remote / hybrid / telework available.

Salary and benefits

  • Primary level salary range: $114,000.00 - $171,000.00
  • Secondary level salary range: $142,200.00 - $213,400.00
