Senior AI Engineer

Motion Recruitment seeks a Senior AI Engineer in Chicago, IL (hybrid) to design, build, and scale applied AI systems across the organization. The work spans agentic systems, LLM integration, and practical tools that support real business use cases.

Role Focus

• Agentic System Development (40%): Build systems that can coordinate actions across multiple services.
• LLM Integration (30%): Connect language models to production workflows and supporting backend capabilities.
• Workflow Automation and Internal Tools (20%): Automate recurring processes and develop internal tooling that teams can use.

What You Will Do

• Hands On (70%): Contribute directly to implementation and system delivery.
• Management Duties (10%): Participate in ownership activities related to team execution and delivery.
• Team Collaboration (20%): Work with others to define solutions and bring them into production.

Key Responsibilities

• Identify high-impact AI opportunities and translate them into solutions for real business problems.
• Design and implement applied AI systems that users can actually adopt.
• Integrate LLM capabilities into backend services and cloud-based platforms.
• Develop and scale agentic systems, LLM-powered components, and workflow automation tools.

Required Qualifications

• Strong software engineering background with experience building scalable backend systems.
• Ability to reason through business problems end-to-end and deliver solutions that are adopted by users.
• Experience identifying high-value AI opportunities and determining where AI will have the biggest impact.
• Demonstrated ability to stay current with the latest models, architecture, frameworks, and techniques, including guidance on which approaches to adopt.
• Strong understanding of selecting the appropriate AI approach for a given problem rather than defaulting to familiar tools or techniques.
• Experience working closely with product and business stakeholders to translate customer needs into effective AI solutions.
