Senior AI Engineer

General Dynamics Information Technology is seeking a Senior AI Engineer to support national security activities through the development and deployment of AI-driven solutions. This role is based at the customer site in Chantilly, VA and requires TS/SCI with Polygraph clearance and U.S. citizenship.

Location and Security Requirements

Key Responsibilities

• Develops innovative AI-driven solutions to address complex problems and improve business processes.
• Collects, cleans, and preprocesses large volumes of structured and unstructured data from multiple sources, maintaining data quality, integrity, and relevance for model training and evaluation.
• Trains, validates, and optimizes large language models using state-of-the-art techniques and frameworks.
• Evaluates model performance, interprets results, and iterates on model design as needed.
• Extracts, selects, and engineers relevant features from raw data to improve model performance and generalization.
• Applies domain knowledge and data exploration techniques to identify informative features.
• Monitors model performance, reliability, and scalability in production environments, implementing automated monitoring and alerting to detect anomalies and performance degradation.
• Documents technical designs, implementation details, and best practices for AI solutions.
• Collaborates with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, software engineers, product managers, and other stakeholders, to understand requirements, prioritize efforts, and deliver impactful AI solutions.

Required Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or other related analytical, scientific, or technical discipline.
• Experience: 5+ years of related experience.
• Experience designing, developing, implementing, and using machine learning algorithms and large language models to address business challenges, including areas such as predictive analytics, natural language processing, computer vision, and recommender systems.
• Understanding of agentic AI frameworks, including Pydantics, CrewAI, and Langchain.
• Programming proficiency in Python and Java.
• Ability to work independently under general supervision, with strong documentation and communication skills and strong user interaction and business analysis skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Understanding of machine learning algorithms, including supervised and unsupervised learning, deep learning, and reinforcement learning.
• Experience with large language models, generative AI, and ensemble methods.
• Familiarity with machine learning libraries and frameworks.
• Knowledge of software development best practices, version control systems, and agile methodologies.
