Senior Data Engineer
Job Description
Headway is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to design data architecture and deliver scalable, dependable, and secure data pipelines for its mental healthcare platform. This role partners across teams to evolve the data platform, support AI-ready trustworthy data, and guide key technical decisions.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines and supporting infrastructure for internal stakeholders and core business functions.
- Define, develop, and refine data governance, monitoring, and data quality standards across the company, including ensuring AI-generated or AI-surfaced data is complete, correct, and traceable.
- Collaborate with Product and Engineering to promote data engineering best practices and ensure data requirements are addressed early in the product lifecycle.
- Work cross-functionally with Analytics, Data Science, and Infrastructure to continuously evolve Headway’s data architecture.
- Own and drive technical decisions across the data platform, including performance optimization and infrastructure-as-code practices.
- Help shape how employees interact with AI-powered tools backed by a reliable data layer to support accurate and trustworthy answers.
Requirements
- 6+ years of experience as a data engineer, with a demonstrated ability to build scalable systems and solve complex data problems in a fast-paced tech environment.
- Proficiency in Python and SQL.
- Experience with a modern data platform toolchain, including Snowflake, dbt, Airflow, Fivetran, and Terraform.
- Familiarity with Metabase or Jupyter Notebooks is a plus.
- A pragmatic approach to delivering for current needs while planning for future scale.
- Strong ownership and a bias toward action, particularly in ambiguous situations.
- Empathy and collaboration across disciplines with teammates and stakeholders.

Compensation
- $180,000 – $225,000 base pay range (annual).
- In addition to base salary, the role may be eligible for an equity grant, depending on position and level.
