Senior Machine Learning Engineer, Advertiser Growth
Job Description
Unity Technologies SF is hiring a Senior Machine Learning Engineer for its Advertiser Growth team in New York, NY (onsite). In this role, you will help architect GenAI systems and marketplace optimization infrastructure that connect creative generation, budget pacing, experimentation, and billing reliability. The work is centered on improving advertiser ROI, strengthening platform health, and protecting financial integrity, with the technical leadership needed to guide multi-quarter roadmaps.
What you will do
- Design and tune advanced pacing controllers including PID and probabilistic forecasting to smooth advertiser spend across diverse time zones and traffic spikes.
- Lead backend integration of Generative AI models (Diffusion and LLMs) to automate image and video asset creation aligned to campaign goals and formats.
- Build and scale high-throughput experimentation infrastructure spanning A/B testing, switchback tests, and long-term holdouts to evaluate how marketplace changes affect advertiser ROI and platform health.
- Architect and maintain billing pipelines capable of processing billions of events with 100% accuracy, connecting real-time ad delivery with financial reconciliation requirements.
- Analyze complex financial and marketplace datasets to refine the trade-off between spend velocity and advertiser performance, using experimentation findings to tune pacing and billing logic.
What you bring
- Advanced degree in computer science or a relevant engineering-related field, or equivalent experience.
- 6+ years of software engineering experience, including 3+ years working on ads delivery systems.
- Extensive experience building and operating large-scale, low-latency backend systems using Java, Go, or Scala.
- Deep familiarity with budget control systems, feedback loops, and spend-prediction algorithms.
- Proven experience building and scaling experimentation platforms, with strong understanding of variance reduction, interference/network effects, and metric design in a marketplace environment.
- Track record on mission-critical pipelines such as billing, payments, or clearinghouses, where precision, idempotency, and fault tolerance are essential.
- Experience or strong technical interest in building backend workflows to serve, scale, and store Generative AI models for creative asset generation.
- Proficiency with real-time stream processing (Kafka, Flink, or Spark) applied to event-based charging and real-time performance feedback.
- Ability to lead complex, multi-quarter technical roadmaps and mentor senior engineers in a high-growth environment.
