Penumbra is hiring an Associate Data Engineer in Alameda, CA (onsite). This role supports the delivery of dependable, scalable data solutions for analytics, reporting, and operational decision-making, while working with technical and business partners to improve real-world outcomes.
You will help build and maintain data solutions including software applications, APIs, data pipelines, automation tools, and AI/ML technologies. The position emphasizes collaboration, accuracy, and continuous improvement across data, operations, and quality and compliance practices.
Responsibilities
- Support operational and performance initiatives by identifying challenges and opportunities for improvement across competitive, scheduling, and resource-related activities.
- Collect, organize, and maintain data from internal databases, historical performance records, operational systems, financial data, and stakeholder input.
- Partner with managers, coaches, and subject-matter experts to understand workflows, constraints, and operational objectives so analyses reflect real-world conditions.
- Analyze data to uncover trends, patterns, and performance drivers related to operational efficiency and strategic planning.
- Use quantitative techniques to support planning and evaluation, including basic forecasting, comparative analysis, and scenario assessment.
- Assist with the development, testing, and use of analytical models and tools for decision-making around performance optimization, scheduling, and resource allocation.
- Evaluate alternative strategies by comparing outcomes, risks, and tradeoffs using data-driven methods.
- Produce reports, summaries, and presentations that translate findings and recommendations into clear, practical updates for stakeholders.
- Provide ongoing analytical support by updating analyses, monitoring outcomes, and refining assumptions as new data arrives.
- Contribute to cross-functional projects with data analysis and operational insights aligned to broader organizational goals.
- Follow the Company’s Quality Management System (QMS) and applicable domestic and global quality system regulations, standards, and procedures.
- Understand and adhere to relevant security, privacy, and compliance principles and requirements.
- Support department alignment by helping ensure other team members follow QMS, regulations, standards, and procedures.
- Perform other assigned work-related duties.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, data science, or a related field with 1+ years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Master’s degree preferred.
- Prior work experience or internships in data science, data analysis, or a related area is a plus.
- Proficiency in Python for automation, API interaction, and rapid prototyping.
- Strong SQL skills.
- Familiarity with prompt engineering, basic NLP/Regex techniques, and foundational ML algorithms (regression, classification, clustering, and decision trees).
- Hands-on experience with Generative AI (GenAI) tools.
- Experience with Azure AI Studio, including configuring resources, deploying models, and fine-tuning.
- Proactive approach to learning and applying new techniques and tools in real-world projects.
- Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize while handling multiple projects.

Annual Base Salary Range: $80,000 - $131,000/year
