Leidos is seeking a Licensed Senior Civil/Structural Engineer to support substation projects for utility clients. Based in Milford, MI, this hybrid role combines technical leadership, client engagement, and hands-on quality oversight across civil, structural, and geotechnical scope areas.
In this position, you will lead design reviews, guide QA/QC for critical substation components, and help shape bid and construction package development while mentoring junior engineers and strengthening safe, compliant execution.
Role summary
You will serve as a senior technical resource for substation civil and structural engineering, providing client-facing support, coordinating review activities across multiple systems, and ensuring deliverables meet safety and performance expectations.
Key responsibilities
- Drive quality assurance for civil and structural components, confirming designs align with safety and performance standards.
- Lead design reviews for steel and concrete structures, including foundations, geotechnical systems, rigid bus, containment, and site packages.
- Oversee bid and construction package development, maintaining alignment with project scope, schedule, and budget.
- Act as lead engineer on client projects, providing technical oversight and ensuring deliverables exceed expectations.
- Mentor and develop junior engineers, supporting technical growth and a collaborative team culture.
- Represent Leidos in client-facing engagements such as kick-off meetings, lunch-and-learns, and industry events.
- Conduct site visits to substation facilities and incorporate field insights into design and execution.
- Champion quality control and safe work practices, embedding compliance and reliability into every project.
Required qualifications
- 8+ years of experience in utility consulting, design engineering, and technical reviews (required).
- Bachelor of Science (BS) in Civil/Structural Engineering (required).
- Professional Engineer (PE) license (required).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and MATHCAD.
- Experience using STAAD.Pro, RISA 3D, FAD Tools, SAFE, SAG10, and LPILE.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD and MicroStation.
- Strong analytical and technical writing abilities.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills, including the ability to engage clients and collaborate across disciplines.
- Willingness to travel up to 25%.

Compensation and benefits
The pay range for this U.S. position is USD 92,300 - 166,850 per year.
