An on-site opportunity in Sidney, Ohio, Copeland seeks an Engineer Lead to advance rotor-dynamic and seal design for high-speed turbomachinery. This role centers on modeling, analysis, validation, and optimization to improve stability, reliability, and efficiency. The position requires a Master’s degree or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field, and a minimum of four years of engineering experience.
Responsibilities
- Conduct rotordynamic modeling and analysis across lateral, torsional, and axial directions, including critical speed maps and Campbell diagrams.
- Design and validate dynamic seal concepts such as labyrinth seals, brush seals, and face contact seals, focusing on performance, wear, and leakage criteria.
- Evaluate and optimize bearing performance (fluid film, rolling element, or magnetic) to manage stiffness, damping, and power loss.
- Correlate analytical results with test data and support testing campaigns (flight, ground, or lab) to validate models.
- Investigate machinery failures and propose corrective actions through root cause analysis.
- Prepare technical documentation, design reports, and API-compliant specifications.
Requirements
- Software proficiency in AxSTREAM, XLROTOR, Matlab, ANSYS, or specialized seal analysis tools.
- Strong grounding in rotordynamics, tribology, finite element analysis (FEA), and computational fluid dynamics (CFD).
- Experience with API 617, API 684, and API 610 design standards.
- Solid understanding of bearing technologies and rotor-bearing–seal interactions.
