VCA Code is expanding its Plan Review team and is hiring experienced Plan Check Engineers at the Plan Check Engineer or Senior Plan Check Engineer level based on experience and qualifications. The position supports plan checking for residential, commercial, and industrial projects, with a focus on clear technical feedback and code compliance. This role is based in Orange, CA (hybrid), with in-person, hybrid, or remote options potentially available depending on position and qualifications.

Responsibilities
- Review building and structural plans for residential, commercial, and industrial projects.
- Evaluate architectural and structural plans, specifications, and calculations for compliance with applicable codes and standards.
- Check structural calculations, including seismic and wind load requirements.
- Review requirements related to building, accessibility, energy, CALGreen, and fire/life-safety.
- Write clear, substantive plan check comments with applicable code references.
- Answer technical questions from architects, engineers, contractors, and applicants regarding code requirements and plan review comments.
- Support complex plan review issues and interpret new or updated code requirements.
- Use electronic plan review software and other applicable technology.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
- Current California Civil or Structural Professional Engineer (PE) license (required).
- Plan review experience with a municipality, building department, or consulting firm.
- Experience reviewing residential, commercial, and/or industrial projects.
- Experience reviewing structural calculations and architectural plans.
- Strong knowledge of California Building Codes and applicable state and local requirements.
- Ability to review and interpret architectural plans, structural plans, specifications, and calculations.
- Ability to prepare clear and substantive plan check corrections with appropriate code references.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Certified Access Specialist (CASp) is highly desirable.

Compensation
$110,000.00 - $175,000.00 per year. The final salary depends on experience, technical expertise, professional licensure, certifications, and overall qualifications.
