Based onsite in Minneapolis, MN, the Senior Traffic and ITS Design Engineer leads Alliant Engineering's traffic and ITS projects across Minnesota and nationwide, guiding design work, bid packages, and project leadership from concept through construction.
Responsibilities
- Independently apply standard civil and traffic engineering principles to project work.
- Design traffic components of infrastructure projects, including roadway lighting, traffic signals, signing, pavement markings, and traffic control plans.
- Lead preliminary and final ITS design efforts, covering fiber optic schematics, changeable message signs, roadway monitoring and detection systems, and signal interconnect.
- Identify ITS processes and emerging technologies to develop system engineering, design verification, and acceptance testing for innovative ITS initiatives.
- Develop traffic and ITS design bid packages, including drawings, specifications, and engineer's estimates to support letting and construction.
- Perform quality assurance reviews of plans, specifications, and estimates prior to submittal.
- Conduct traffic signal warrant analyses and prepare Intersection Control Evaluation (ICE) studies.
- Apply applicable design standards from DOT, State Aid, County, or City-specific programs in a context-driven manner.
- Prepare proposals, scopes of work, and project budgets.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering.
- Licensed Professional Engineer in Minnesota or the ability to obtain licensure within six months of start date.
- Six or more years of experience as a Traffic and ITS Engineer.
- Proficiency with MicroStation, Open Roads, or AutoCAD.
- Familiarity with traffic and ITS design standards such as MUTCD and MnDOT manuals.
- Strong attention to detail, analytical capabilities, and effective communication skills.

Compensation
