Brook Valley Management is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to drive the continued development of Panorama, a custom-built C# inventory management system, and the integrations that keep it aligned with retail operations across distributed sites. In this onsite role in Birmingham, Alabama, you will own end-to-end delivery of integration and production reliability issues where requirements can start as a rough business problem.
You will work within a live retail environment where data accuracy, uptime, and fast issue resolution matter. The role also expects practical use of agentic and AI-assisted coding tools, including Claude Code, as part of implementation, code review, testing, and documentation.
Key responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain features in Panorama, balancing ongoing development with the stability of a system the business relies on.
- Develop and maintain data integrity and system uptime across multiple distributed locations.
- Design and build integrations between Panorama and Counterpoint by NCR (point-of-sale), plus other systems such as ERP, BI, and third-party vendor platforms, ensuring inventory, pricing, and sales data stay accurate and synchronized.
- Use agentic coding tools (for example, Claude Code) as a standard development workflow, including implementation, code review, testing, and documentation, and help establish conventions for safe, effective team adoption.
- Take work from an ambiguous problem statement through design, implementation, testing, and rollout with minimal hand-holding.
- Write clean, well-tested, maintainable code and apply the same quality expectations in code reviews.
- Diagnose and resolve production issues across Panorama and its integrations, including data discrepancies, with urgency appropriate for retail.
- Document system architecture and integration touchpoints so the broader technology team and future hires can extend the systems you build.
- Partner with the Director of Enterprise Technology, the BI team, and the Panorama subject-matter expert to prioritize and scope upcoming work, including store rollouts and new integration needs.
- Evaluate new tools, libraries, and AI-assisted development practices and recommend what is worth adopting.
- Mentor and coach junior developers, supporting documentation, workflows, and team practices.
Required qualifications
- 5+ years of professional software development experience with demonstrated ownership of non-trivial systems in production.
- Strong, hands-on C# experience, comfortable working in and extending an existing large C# codebase.
- Experience with distributed, intermittently-connected systems, including eventual consistency, idempotent retries, and reconciling data from sites that may be offline.
- Real, hands-on experience using agentic/AI-assisted coding tools in a professional workflow; Claude Code experience is a strong plus.
- Direct experience building or maintaining integrations between operational systems, such as point-of-sale, inventory or warehouse management, ERP, including data synchronization, APIs, and edge cases between systems that do not always agree.
- Ability to translate an ambiguous business problem into a scoped technical plan and communicate it clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong debugging and systems-thinking skills, including tracing issues across connected systems.
- Experience mentoring or reviewing other developersβ work.
- Ability to travel occasionally to support store rollouts or on-site integration work.
