Tandym Group is seeking a Data Engineer to help maintain the stability of a data platform and drive modernization work across Bergen County. This hybrid role in Montvale, NJ focuses on supporting production data flows, troubleshooting incidents, and improving reliability through practical Azure data engineering.
In this position, you will work across Azure-based data services using Python and Databricks, build and optimize PySpark transformations, and tune warehouse performance with advanced T-SQL. You will also partner with stakeholders to resolve issues using root-cause analysis and clear technical communication.
What you will do
- Support and troubleshoot data pipelines, large datasets, and production data issues
- Develop and maintain Azure data engineering solutions using Python and Databricks
- Build and manage workflows using notebooks, including PySpark read/write operations and data transformations
- Optimize data warehouse performance with T-SQL through indexing and query tuning
- Collaborate with stakeholders to address incidents, conduct root-cause analysis, and improve data reliability
Required qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in application support, technical leadership, or data-platform troubleshooting
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field
- Hands-on experience with Azure data engineering and Python
- Working knowledge of Databricks and PySpark
- Advanced T-SQL and data warehouse experience, including stored procedures, functions, execution plans, indexing, and query optimization
- Experience troubleshooting ETL pipelines, data-quality issues, performance bottlenecks, and scalability issues
- Understanding of RDBMS concepts, reporting flows, data movement, and production support practices
- Strong incident ownership, root-cause analysis, stakeholder communication, and technical coaching skills

- Onsite expectation: At least 3 days onsite, with Tues to Thurs mandatory
Salary: USD 60-72 per hour.
