Job Description

Technical leadership for control system development on electromechanical chassis, including steering and driveline applications, with cross-functional coordination and full-lifecycle technical execution.

Responsibilities

Direct cross-functional development programs for control systems, aligning technical deliverables, priorities, and timing with customer expectations and internal milestones.
Support business development and RFQ efforts by leading technical reviews, assessing control system requirements, creating compliance matrices, estimating engineering scope, and contributing to customer proposals.
Oversee system-level development of safety-critical chassis control systems, defining architecture, developing closed-loop strategies, and ensuring ASPICE and internal process compliance.
Own control system requirements, dynamic models, and architecture design with full traceability throughout the development lifecycle.
Develop and refine control algorithms, including signal processing, closed-loop controller design and compensation, plant modeling, stability analysis, and performance optimization.
Define verification strategies and test procedures for control system requirements, covering model-in-the-loop, software-in-the-loop, hardware-in-the-loop, production, and vehicle-level validation of closed-loop performance.
Lead hardware-in-the-loop bench actuator controller development and ongoing improvement.
Develop control-oriented interfaces and test tool capabilities in embedded environments, enabling CAN-based measurement, calibration, tuning, debugging, and customer demonstrations using CANape, CANoe, and CANalyzer.
Analyze, tune, and debug control algorithms, embedded software, and electrical hardware across simulation, laboratory, production line, and vehicle environments.
Support the introduction of new products to production and ongoing production support for existing products.
Facilitate communication and strategic coordination between the plant and the technical center, including troubleshooting support, process improvement, and technical reviews.
Occasionally work overtime and on weekends as directed by supervision to complete essential duties.
Foster responsive, cooperative relationships with internal and external customers, upholding professionalism and respect.

Requirements

Working knowledge of designing, evaluating, and integrating vehicle control systems and subsystems, diagnostics, control modules/software, and electrical systems.
Strong grasp of classic and modern control theory, including feedback control, lead/lag and notch compensations, observers, stability analysis, and design.
Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering, processes, and toolchains.
Proficiency in Matlab/Simulink, CAN tooling (eg, Vector CANape, CANoe, CANalyzer), and related automotive development tools.
Familiarity with ASPICE processes is preferred.
Strong problem solving and analytical abilities: diagnose root causes from complex data, differentiate symptoms, apply lessons learned, anticipate issues, and develop contingency plans.
Self-starter with excellent verbal and written technical communication skills.
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent required; MS preferred.
Minimum six years of automotive experience with chassis electronic components.
Experience developing control algorithms and engineering project management is required.
Proficiency with toolchains including ALM, requirements and traceability tools, system architecture tools, and test tools.
Experience with FMEA, FTA, and structured problem solving methods (8D, 5Y, etc.).
Vehicle dynamics and model correlation experience preferred.
Experience with generative AI, machine learning, and data analysis toolchains is a plus.
Familiarity with environmental, mechanical, and electrical verification testing methodologies in automotive contexts.
Experience in safety critical electric system development (steering, brakes, powertrain) compliant with ISO 26262 is preferred.

ISO 26262 safety critical electric system development experience preferred (steering, brakes, powertrain).

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment and Location

Hybrid remote work arrangement in Plymouth, Michigan 48170.
Work is primarily in an office setting with substantial computer usage; occasional exposure to manufacturing areas with PPE requirements.
Travel by automobile and plane required approximately 5 to 10 percent of the time.
