Job Description

Benefits-forward and built for engineers who want to make critical authentication systems more resilient, this Lead Software Engineer role sits on the Auth & Auth TSE team within JPMorgan Chase’s Chief Technology Office. You’ll provide in-region, front-line technical support for the firm’s identity and authentication systems, owning complex, customer-facing integration incidents end to end and applying deep technical expertise to diagnose, document, mentor, and implement durable fixes.

Location: Jersey City, NJ (onsite)
Compensation: USD 156,750 - 215,000 per year
Experience: 5+ years

What you’ll do

Act as an in-region, front-line technical support point across the Auth & Auth portfolio, helping strengthen resiliency for critical authentication functions.
Work directly with engineering customers to design and validate integrations, including flow selection, federation setup, onboarding, and secure credential handling.
Own complex incidents spanning multiple systems, driving them to resolution and supporting related maintenance and release efforts.
Write and review code daily, including reproductions, diagnostic tooling, and reviews of customers’ integration code.
Author and review runbooks and root-cause write-ups to improve repeatability and long-term operational stability.
Provide regional escalation coverage and support knowledge sharing so other engineers ramp effectively.
Develop creative solutions and troubleshoot beyond routine approaches to break down technical problems and build durable fixes.
Drive team adoption of enterprise-authorized AI-assisted engineering practices (for example, AI-assisted code review/refactoring, test strategy acceleration, and incident/root-cause analysis support) while establishing consistent validation standards such as secure coding, peer review, and automated testing, and promoting reuse of effective patterns.
Apply capabilities within the Software Development Life Cycle toolchain, including enterprise-authorized AI-assisted development and automation, to increase the value realized from automation.
Identify opportunities to eliminate or automate remediation of recurring issues to improve operational stability of software applications and systems.

Core requirements

Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts, plus 5+ years of applied experience.
Customer-facing solution design experience, partnering with engineering customers to understand problems and design fixes.
Coding and scripting proficiency to reproduce issues and review customer integrations in whatever language is needed.
Strong technical writing and the ability to review work with clear, constructive feedback.
Broad systems integration experience, with a track record integrating across many systems, protocols, and languages.
Root-cause diagnostic rigor, following evidence such as logs, traces, and tokens rather than guessing.
Incident and release support discipline, including steady execution under pressure and sound escalation judgment.
Strong communication with both deeply technical and non-technical audiences.
Advanced experience in one or more programming languages.
Demonstrated experience leading effective use of approved AI-assisted software development tools, including setting team expectations to validate AI outputs for correctness, performance, and security.
Strong understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows, including data sensitivity, secure handling of inputs and outputs, and coaching engineers on safe, compliant adoption.
