At Cabot Corporation’s specialty carbon black site in Pampa, Texas, the Process Engineer will lead unit operations, drive process improvements, and oversee capital projects aimed at boosting product quality and production capacity. This onsite role operates on a 9/80 schedule, and relocation is eligible for qualified candidates.
Responsibilities
- Improve Plant Performance: identify, recommend, and implement actions to optimize product volume, yields, and quality aligned with business needs. Gather and analyze data, apply statistical techniques to improve process capability or determine root causes, and pursue improvement opportunities. Lead unit Continuous Process Improvement team efforts.
- Operations Technical Support: provide technical guidance to resolve operating problems, understand downtime drivers, control unit grade operating conditions, and investigate deviations using root cause analysis. Serve as the technical authority for area units.
- Resolves Quality Issues: collaborate with quality personnel and operations to understand causes of unit product quality issues and develop actions to enhance processes and customer satisfaction.
- Training: develop and deliver training to manufacturing personnel to support understanding and operation of unit processes.
- SOP Development: assist in creating plant-wide Standard Operating Procedures for process and equipment operations.
- PSM/Process MOC: ensure product and process changes are implemented consistent with Management of Change protocols and relevant PSM elements at Cabot.
- New Product/Process Campaigns: support and execute new product and process runs, prepare documentation, implement equipment, procedure, and process changes, and participate in Hazard Operability Studies as applicable; assist in designing and operating new equipment.
- Technical Communications: maintain regular dialogue with regional and global colleagues in the specialty carbons business to enable continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.
- Capital Support: contribute to development and execution of plant-related capital projects.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
- 2+ years of relevant experience.
- Knowledge and experience in chemical manufacturing; process and product technology preferred.
- Knowledge of Process Safety Management and ISO process awareness/compliance preferred.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a team environment.
- Carbon black manufacturing experience preferred.
- Knowledge and experience with root cause analysis techniques preferred.
- Knowledge and experience with plant process equipment, chemistry, and controls preferred.
- Experience managing small projects—planning, task identification, and milestone tracking—preferred.
- Ability to gather and analyze data and draw well-reasoned conclusions or recommendations.
- Strong influencing skills to achieve objectives.

The pay range for this role is $89,100 to $125,800, with the final offer determined by qualifications, experience, and location.
