Analyst, Information Technology (Data Engineer)
Job Description
Oriental Bank offers a hybrid work arrangement in San Juan, PR and a mid level Data Engineer role that centers on building and operating scalable data pipelines for banking and financial services within a regulated environment. You will work with Snowflake and AWS to enable reliable analytics, reporting, and downstream data consumption, while collaborating with cross functional teams in an Agile setting. This position emphasizes hands-on development, governance alignment, and opportunities to deepen expertise in modern data engineering practices.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and sustain ELT/ETL pipelines for batch and event driven data intake using Snowflake and AWS.
- Architect and optimize Snowflake data models including tables, views, and secure data shares to support analytics and downstream consumption.
- Create scalable data processing solutions using SQL and Python.
- Integrate with AWS services such as S3, Lambda, Glue, and IAM to support data ingestion, processing, and access control.
- Construct pipelines handling financial transactions and customer data with a focus on accuracy, completeness, and auditability.
- Implement data quality checks, reconciliation logic, and monitoring suitable for regulated financial data.
- Collaborate with data architects to align pipelines with enterprise data models, standards, and governance expectations.
- Assist with production deployments using Git based version control, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure as code practices.
- Participate in Agile delivery teams, contributing to sprint planning, design reviews, and technical documentation.
- Additional duties may be assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
- Three or more years of professional experience in Data Engineering or a related role.
- Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered to meet knowledge and skills requirements.
- Hands-on experience with Snowflake, including data ingestion, transformations, and performance optimization.
- Experience operating in AWS environments, with emphasis on S3 and serverless services.
- Advanced SQL skills and experience working with large, complex datasets.
- Proficiency in Python for data processing and pipeline automation.
- Experience with modern data engineering tools and frameworks such as dbt, Airflow, Spark or PySpark, or equivalents.
- Familiarity with Git, CI/CD practices, and production support workflows.
