Associate Cybersecurity Engineer
Job Description
The Associate Cybersecurity Engineer will help strengthen the protection of Dutch Bros systems, data, and people by supporting the implementation, monitoring, and ongoing improvement of security controls. This hybrid role in Tempe, Arizona focuses on security tooling support, alert monitoring and triage, vulnerability scanning and remediation tracking, and collaboration with IT and engineering to maintain secure configurations.
Key Responsibilities
- Support deployment, configuration, and day-to-day health of security tooling, including SIEM, endpoint protection, email security, and identity and access management.
- Monitor and triage security alerts, conduct initial investigations, document findings, and escalate potential incidents to senior engineers.
- Assist with vulnerability scanning, track remediation progress with system owners, and help verify fixes are applied and effective.
- Partner with IT, engineering, and business teams to apply secure configurations, support access reviews, and remediate identified risks.
- Support security awareness efforts and promote adoption of secure practices across the organization under senior team guidance.
- Stay current on emerging threats, vulnerabilities, and security best practices to continuously improve security approaches.
- Participate in knowledge sharing, tabletop exercises, and training sessions to build competency in security tooling and incident response.
- Collaborate in-person, including the ability to attend occasional impromptu in-person meetings.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (cybersecurity, information technology, computer science, etc.) or equivalent hands-on experience preferred.
- 0-1+ years of experience in a cybersecurity, IT, systems, or network role, including internships or lab/home-lab experience.
- Working knowledge of core security concepts: the CIA triad, common attack techniques, defense in depth, and least privilege.
- Exposure to security tooling such as SIEM, EDR, vulnerability scanners, email security, or identity and access management platforms preferred.
- Familiarity with operating systems (Windows, Linux, macOS), networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, firewalls, VPN), and cloud platforms (AWS or Azure) is a plus.
- Familiarity with scripting or automation (Python, PowerShell, Bash) to reduce manual security work is a plus.
- Good communication skills, including the ability to explain security risks and requirements to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, adaptability, ability to multitask, and critical thinking.
- Security certifications such as CompTIA Security+, Network+, SSCP, or cloud security fundamentals are a plus or willingness to obtain.

Location and Work Schedule
- Location: Tempe, AZ (hybrid).

Physical Requirements
- In-office environment: must be able to work in a busy, crowded, and loud office with frequent distractions and interruptions.
- Collaboration: must be able to collaborate in-person with occasional impromptu in-person meetings.
- Office conditions: adaptability to typical office conditions, which may include exposure to air conditioning, heating, artificial lighting, and varying noise levels.
