Combat-Fire Control, Weapons, Platform Systems Engineer

The role is a direct-support Combat Systems, Weapons, and Platform Systems Engineer stationed on-site at NUWCDIVNPT in Newport, RI, providing engineering support for maintenance, modernization, testing, and documentation of submarine combat and platform systems.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot and recommend improvements for maintenance and upgrades to non-propulsion submarine and ship systems, including combat systems and fire control, weapons payloads (torpedoes, missiles, and other payloads), launchers, sonar, radar, periscopes, electronic warfare, and navigation interfaces at NUWCDIVNPT or on-site platforms.
• Assess and design system modernization and capability expansions to meet evolving Navy requirements.
• Propose process improvements for existing systems and operational workflows.
• Conduct test and evaluation activities and quality assessments to verify requirements compliance, interoperability, reliability, and cyber resilience.
• Develop reports and recommendation papers detailing analysis results, testing outcomes, operational demonstrations, and problem investigations.
• Coordinate with the Team Lead and engineering staff to support upgrades to weapon systems to satisfy data requirements.
• Collect and evaluate technical data for planned, active, and completed platform modernization and TEMPALT installation activities, including Pre-Installation Check-Outs (PICOs) and Post-Installation System Operational Verification Tests (SOVTs).
• Document and present trade studies outlining risks, benefits, and feasibility of future systems.
• Coordinate and support platform technical data package development and delivery.
• Develop Concept of Operations (CONOPS), performance specifications, interface documentation, and operational procedures.
• Perform or support functional, integration, system, factory acceptance, and environmental testing events.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline. Alternatively, candidates with substantial demonstrated experience operating DoD, US Navy, and AUKUS non-propulsion electronic-mechanical systems, particularly submarine combat control, weapons, launcher, USW sensors, electronic warfare, imaging, and/or radar systems, will be strongly considered.
• Knowledge of AN/BYG-1 and SWFTS architecture for current and future combat control systems; familiarity with launcher systems equipment; torpedoes, missiles, payload control/strike operations, and related platform non-propulsion electronic systems equipment.
• Experience in design, troubleshooting, analysis, reporting, and testing of complex systems.
• Understanding of the US Navy submarine land-based laboratory testing and evaluation environment for combat systems and related interfaces networks.
• Detailed knowledge of submarine operational documentation and ability to write, edit, and maintain submarine firing craft procedures.
• Strong communication and presentation skills for interfacing with technical personnel, managers, and customers.
• Proficiency with MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Adobe Acrobat, and MATLAB.
• U.S. citizenship and an active Department of Defense Secret security clearance.

Salary range: USD 130,000 - 150,000 per year.
