Advanced Software Engineer (C++, Java)

Build mission-critical software for U.S. Navy submarine and surface platforms as part of a cross-functional engineering team. This fully on-site role in Manassas, VA offers a structured 9/80 style schedule option (every other Friday off if desired) along with competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits.

In this position, you will contribute across the software lifecycle, from design and implementation through testing, integration, and issue resolution. Work is research oriented and focused on practical solutions supporting national security.

What You’ll Do

• Develop and maintain production-quality software using C++, Qt, Java, or Python.
• Implement software components based on system and interface requirements.
• Integrate distributed applications using APIs, AMQP, gRPC, Protocol Buffers, and data-driven interfaces.
• Develop and troubleshoot software in Linux environments, preferably Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
• Containerize and deploy applications using Docker or Podman.
• Create unit and integration tests and support formal system testing.
• Diagnose issues across software, networking, data, and integration in laboratory environments.
• Participate in code reviews, design discussions, Agile planning, and technical meetings.
• Maintain software documentation and follow configuration-management and secure-coding practices.
• Identify appropriate uses of approved AI tools to improve software quality and engineering productivity.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering or a related STEM field with at least 5 years of relevant experience, or Master’s degree with 3 years relevant experience.
• Department of Defense Secret security clearance required at time of hire.
• Selected applicants will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
• Due to the nature of work within facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

Compensation and Workplace Details

• Salary range: USD 124,216 - 137,803 per year
