Cybersecurity Engineer Principal
Job Description
General Dynamics Information Technology is seeking a seasoned cybersecurity leader to join as Principal Cybersecurity Engineer in support of the DTRA DSMS contract. This onsite role at Fort Belvoir, Virginia emphasizes translating cybersecurity value to leadership, guiding risk and posture decisions, coordinating inspections and tests, and delivering modern security platforms across both on-prem and cloud environments.
Responsibilities
- Articulate the value of information security to stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
- Advise leadership on changes that affect the cybersecurity posture, including shifts in risk levels and control effectiveness.
- Collaborate with a geographically dispersed team to plan and execute cybersecurity inspections, tests, and reviews.
- Develop, distribute, and maintain security plans, guidance, and standard operating procedures for the operational environment.
- Communicate security and compliance issues to government leadership and cybersecurity staff in a concise and appropriate manner.
- Provide status updates on cybersecurity metrics, key risk indicators, trends, and compliance to stakeholders and government personnel.
- Oversee policy standards and implementation strategies to ensure procedures align with cybersecurity policies.
- Ensure security requirements and information policies are consistent with baselines and operational needs.
- Engage current and prospective customers (CIOs, AO, CSSP, program executives) to build trust, convey solutions, and influence action.
- Architect and deliver modern cybersecurity platforms (eg Splunk, Palo Alto) and cloud-based security services (AWS, Azure).
Requirements
- Active Top Secret/SCI clearance; U.S. citizenship is required.
- Minimum of 8 years of related experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- IAM Level III Certification (CISSP, CISM or GSLC).
- Experience with Risk Management Framework (RMF).
- Experience with Enterprise Mission Assurance Support Service (eMASS).
- Comprehensive knowledge of cybersecurity principles, methods, and techniques.

Compensation
The likely salary range for this position is $187,000 to $253,000 per year. This range is not a guaranteed offer; final compensation is determined by experience, geographic location, and contractual requirements.
