Job Description

In Milwaukee, this hybrid role anchors a data and analytics discipline within a financial services context. A Data & Analytics Engineer at Robert W. Baird designs, builds, and delivers scalable data pipelines and analytics-ready datasets while collaborating with stakeholders to drive data-driven decision making. The position combines hands-on engineering with cross-functional partnership to turn complex data into reliable, action-ready insights.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the design, construction, and ongoing maintenance of data pipelines that ingest and transform financial services data, ensuring scalable and dependable data flows.
  • Apply data modeling techniques, including 3NF and dimensional modeling, to create analytics-ready datasets.
  • Perform data analysis and profiling to understand source data, support quality outcomes, and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Develop and validate source-to-target mappings and transformation logic to meet analytics needs.
  • Implement and test end-to-end data solutions under the guidance of senior engineers, validating performance and accuracy.
  • Follow established practices to protect sensitive data and ensure compliant handling throughout the data lifecycle.
  • Support data discovery efforts and prototype datasets that integrate multiple data sources for broader insights.
  • Leverage existing tools to enable reporting and visualization for financial services users.
  • Document datasets and transformations to support usability, adoption, and governance.
  • Deliver work incrementally while accommodating evolving priorities and feedback from stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with delivery team members, architects, and business partners to align on requirements and outcomes.
  • Communicate progress, risks, and dependencies clearly to peers and leadership.
  • Learn and apply Baird data standards, tools, and best practices to maintain consistency across projects.
  • Seek feedback and coaching from senior Data & Analytics Engineers to continually improve skills.
  • Continuously develop capabilities through training, documentation, and hands-on experience.

Requirements

  • 5 to 7 years of experience delivering data and analytics solutions in collaborative environments.
  • Background in data engineering, analytics engineering, business intelligence development, or related data-focused roles.
  • Strong SQL skills with solid understanding of relational database concepts and best practices.
  • Experience performing data analysis, profiling, validation, and troubleshooting to support reliable data solutions.
  • Ability to partner effectively with business stakeholders to understand requirements and support analytics needs.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities, intellectual curiosity, and a commitment to ongoing technical growth.
  • Experience with databases and platforms such as SQL Server, Snowflake, Azure SQL Database, and Azure Data Lake.
  • Experience writing queries and developing solutions using SQL, T-SQL, Azure Data Studio, or similar tools.
  • Familiarity with BI and analytics tools such as Power BI, Alteryx, or comparable platforms.
  • Working knowledge of data modeling and governance concepts, including 3NF, dimensional modeling, data mapping, data profiling, and data quality practices.
  • Experience working with common data formats such as CSV, JSON, XML, and Parquet.
  • Experience operating in regulated or data-sensitive environments is preferred.
