Job Description

ExxonMobil’s Low Carbon Solutions (LCS) IT team is seeking a Data Engineer to design and deliver scalable data pipelines and a physical data platform that supports multiple LCS business use cases. This role focuses on modern cloud-based data solutions, dependable data movement, and governance, security, and quality across batch and real-time workflows.

Role Overview

In this position, you will collaborate with the LCS IT team to build scalable data pipelines and establish a physical data platform foundation for multiple Low Carbon Solution business use cases. You will also design and implement modern, cloud-based data solutions in alignment with LCS business and IT architectures, while partnering with IT and business teams to deliver datasets and data products that meet stakeholder needs.

What You Will Do

  • Lead and participate in gathering complex, often unique business requirements by defining the business problem and data requirements.
  • Design, build, and maintain robust batch and/or real-time data pipelines for ingesting, processing, and transforming large-scale datasets.
  • Develop, maintain, document, and optimize physical data models and data flow diagrams supporting transactional solutions, analytics, reporting, and business workflows.
  • Integrate APIs, modern integrations, and data sources to support reliable, monitored, and efficient data movement across systems.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to profile data sources, structure, clean, and deliver data for consumers including applications, visualization tools, and end users.
  • Ensure adherence to data classification and security access using appropriate storage, data management, and query optimization to enable efficient data access.
  • Build enterprise-ready data solutions with data governance, quality, and reliability standards.
  • Stay current with data engineering technologies and trends, applying improvements to existing data pipelines.
  • Integrate standards for platform and frameworks covering source code management, work item and project tracking, DevOps, and enterprise architecture.
  • Mentor Data Engineers (Associate level), providing guidance and support for professional development, including helping contractors follow ExxonMobil standards and architectures.

Team Collaboration

You will help deliver high-quality datasets and data products by partnering across IT and business teams, translating stakeholder requirements into data solutions, and supporting data consumers through clear, dependable data delivery.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience delivering data solutions.
  • 7+ years of professional experience in data engineering, data platform development, or related areas.
  • Strong proficiency in Python and SQL for data processing and pipeline development.
  • Hands-on experience building and maintaining scalable data pipelines, including batch and streaming.
  • Advanced knowledge of data modeling, ETL/ELT design patterns, and data architecture best practices.
  • Experience with cloud data platforms and distributed data processing frameworks.
  • Hands-on experience with relational and/or NoSQL database technologies.
  • Experience implementing data quality, validation, and monitoring frameworks.
  • Hands-on experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines for data workflows.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Azure data services (Azure Data Factory, Synapse, Databricks).
  • Experience with Snowflake or equivalent data warehouse or data platforms.
  • Strong SQL expertise, including performance tuning and security model implementation.
  • Experience with big data technologies such as Spark or Kafka.
  • Familiarity with data orchestration tools (e.g., Airflow).
  • Experience integrating observability and monitoring into data pipelines.
  • Knowledge of data governance, lineage, and metadata management tools.
  • Prior experience working with Python-based data processing or optimization workflows.
  • Experience with Palantir Foundry, Ontologies, or similar enterprise data platforms.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in fast-paced, Agile environments.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills across technical and business teams.
