Data Engineer 5 (SEO/GEO, AdTech )

Capital One is building cloud-first data solutions and scalable marketing and message platforms that help deliver hyper-personalized experiences for customers. As a Data Engineer 5 (SEO/GEO, AdTech) in McLean, VA (onsite), you will help lead large-scale, transformative data initiatives end to end, designing and operating pipelines and platforms that support real business demands.

What you’ll deliver

• Collaborate with Agile teams to design, develop, test, implement, and support solutions across full-stack development tools and technologies
• Influence developers, data analysts, and data scientists with expertise in machine learning, distributed microservices, lakehouse architecture, and full-stack systems
• Independently design, build, and deliver cloud data solutions and applications with minimal supervision
• Architect and enforce common data engineering design patterns to improve code quality, maintainability, and reusability across pipelines and platforms
• Build data pipelines and platforms focused on scalability, resilience, and operational efficiency, maintaining robust performance as data volume grows
• Serve as an ambassador for the data engineering team by communicating technical concepts and data outcomes clearly to internal and external stakeholders
• Act as a force-multiplier by balancing deep hands-on engineering contributions with mentoring and elevating peer and junior engineering capabilities

How you’ll build (and choose the right platform)

• Lead and execute end-to-end data initiatives, including critical architectural decisions and platform evaluations (for example, Snowflake versus Databricks) based on technical and business needs
• Use Python and Spark with open-source relational and NoSQL databases and cloud data warehousing platforms such as Databricks and Snowflake

The Marketing and Messaging team creates hyper-personalized messages and experiences that delight customers, attract prospects, and increase business value. The team builds scalable omnichannel platforms across owned and paid AdTech channels, partnering with product managers and software engineers to drive robust cloud-first data solutions.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Computer Science or a related quantitative field (Statistics, Economics, Operations Research, Analytics, Mathematics, Engineering)
• 6+ years of experience in application development (internship experience does not apply)
• 4+ years of experience in distributed data
• 4+ years of experience with SQL
• 4+ years programming with at least one of: Python, Java, or Scala
• 4+ years designing and developing data pipelines
• 2+ years in data modeling and end-to-end data solutions using both relational and non-relational database systems

• Salary: $229,900 - $262,400 per year for Data Engineer 5 in McLean, VA
