Data Engineer Associate - Asset Management Group (PySpark, Hadoop, SQL)

The Data Engineer Associate in PNC's Asset Management Group develops and maintains data pipelines using PySpark, Hadoop, and SQL, handling ingestion, transformation, and governance tasks. This onsite role is based in Birmingham, AL.

Responsibilities

• Assist in designing, supporting, and implementing data solutions across multiple applications to meet business objectives and user requirements, applying technical knowledge to build and maintain data technologies.
• Perform data requirement analysis and develop data preparation processes for targeted solutions.
• Contribute to designing and building data service infrastructure on multiple platforms in alignment with workflow needs.
• Participate in developing and deploying data solutions to ensure scalability, availability, and maintainability across applications.
• Provide guidance on data migration and transformation to ensure accuracy and security of data solutions.

Requirements

• Hands-on experience with PySpark and Hadoop ecosystems, including building and sustaining data pipelines using Spark, Hive, and HDFS.
• Strong SQL skills with the ability to interpret business logic, craft optimized queries, and work with large analytical datasets in Hive/Impala.
• Experience constructing and supporting data ingestion and transformation pipelines, including source-to-target mappings, data validation, and quality checks.
• Familiarity with agile delivery models, collaborating with cross-functional teams (developers, analysts, QA, product owners) and participating in sprint-based development and releases.
• Working knowledge of data governance and tooling, such as metadata management (eg, Alation), documentation standards, and controlled promotion of data to production environments.
• Typically requires a university degree with 2+ years of relevant professional experience; in lieu of a degree, a comparable combination of education, certifications, and experience may be considered.

Pay Transparency

Base Salary: $45,000.00 – $142,250.00. Salaries vary by geographic location, market data, and individual qualifications. This role is eligible for incentive compensation based on company, business, and personal performance.
