Job Description
Data Engineer I at Travelers builds and deploys data solutions and pipelines to support AI, machine learning, and enterprise analytics, coordinating across teams to enable data access and insights.
Responsibilities
- Develop and operate sophisticated data solutions, fix issues, apply transformations, and advise on data cleansing and quality strategies.
- Conceive and design data solutions that meet analytical goals.
- Evaluate data sources to determine value and select data to include in analytical workflows.
- Incorporate core data management practices including governance, security, and quality.
- Collaborate within and across teams to support delivery and educate end users on data products and the analytics environment.
- Analyze data and systems, evaluate defects and incidents of moderate complexity, and implement appropriate resolutions.
- Test data movement, transformation logic, and data components for reliability and accuracy.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM field or equivalent.
- Experience: Six years of related experience.
- AI Experience: Leverage experience with OpenAI and AWS Bedrock to drive innovative projects.
- Technical Proficiency: Demonstrated skills in Python, SQL, AWS, Databricks, and related technologies to develop robust AI applications.
- Infrastructure: Terraform experience to streamline infrastructure management and deployment.
- API Design: Experience designing and implementing APIs to enable seamless integrations and functionalities.
- Engineering Practices: Proficient use of cloud platforms, programming languages, and software engineering practices.
- Delivery: Ability to work at a steady, predictable pace, decompose work into small batches, and contribute to tradeoff discussions.
- Domain Knowledge: Demonstrated expertise and understanding of the relevant technical concepts and systems.
- Problem Solving: Strong debugging skills and the ability to identify sources of issues in unfamiliar code or systems, plus solving repetitive problems.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication with teammates and business partners.
- Leadership: Intermediate leadership capabilities with a track record of self-motivated growth.
- Experience: Additional two years of software or data engineering experience.
