Data Engineer (Senior Consultant)
Job Description
Guidehouse is seeking a Data Engineer (Senior Consultant) to support CMS data modernization from an onsite Washington, DC location, focusing on scalable data pipelines and lakehouse architectures for secure, compliant processing of federal health data.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and sustain end-to-end ETL and ELT pipelines in Databricks-driven environments
- Implement and steward medallion style lakehouse architectures across bronze, silver, and gold layers
- Create scalable pipelines capable of processing large and complex datasets, including structured and semi-structured data
- Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, SMEs, and CMS stakeholders to translate business needs into technical designs
- Guard data quality, lineage, and governance through validation, monitoring, and documentation
- Tune performance and efficiency of cloud-based data processing workflows
- Support CMS EIPM aligned data integration and modernization initiatives
- Participate in Agile practices, including sprint planning and backlog management
Requirements
- U.S. citizenship and eligibility for a Public Trust clearance
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, or a related field
- At least four years of experience in data or software engineering or related technical roles
- Strong Python and SQL skills for data engineering and transformation workloads
- Practical experience with Databricks and large-scale data processing platforms
- Proven ability to develop and maintain ETL/ELT data pipelines
- Experience with medallion style lakehouse architectures (bronze, silver, gold)
- Familiarity with relational and distributed data systems and data modeling
- Experience with CI/CD practices and tools, including Git-based workflows
- Understanding of version control and collaboration tools such as Git, Jira, and Confluence
- Experience working in Agile development environments
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced setting
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting capabilities
- Excellent verbal and written communication, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts clearly
