Distribution Engineer

Leidos is seeking a Distribution Engineer / Designer to support electric utility distribution design in Framingham, MA within a hybrid work model (3 days per week in the office, 2 days per week remote). In this role, you will help translate field inputs and client requirements into well-structured work packages using GIS and work management tools, while coordinating with customers and managing project scope, schedule, and budget.

You will perform electric utility distribution design engineering, develop work packages for overhead and underground distribution work, and coordinate the details required to keep deliverables aligned with client priorities.

What you’ll do

• Conduct electric utility distribution design engineering for Leidos electric utility customers
• Develop work packages for OH, UG, URD, and Make Ready using customer GIS and work management systems such as EFD, AUD, Smallworld, ArcGIS, Infor, EAM, STORMS, and Maximo
• Manage scope, schedule, and budget of assigned work
• Complete functional tasks, planning activities, and customer follow-up as needed
• Perform scope analysis to support schedule adherence and advocate for client priorities
• Initiate continuous improvement activities that strengthen workflow efficiency and the quality of client design deliverables
• Coordinate conflicting utilities and field engineering design requirements for complex projects in dense urban environments, including assessment and development of large design packages for cable/conduit work
• Support work permit development, easements, and ROW applications
• Work comfortably across field and office settings, including local or regional site visits to collect field data used to develop work packages

What you’ll need

• 2+ years of prior relevant experience
• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial (additional relevant experience and certifications may be considered in lieu of a bachelor’s degree)
• Experience and demonstrated proficiency with the National Electric Safety Code (NESC)
• Some prior experience with structural analysis, guying calcs, cable pulling calcs, coordination of protective devices, and electric demand and fault current calculations
• Ability to provide your own reliable transportation for anticipated local or regional customer-related travel (job travel reimbursed at IRS-approved rates)
• Demonstrated strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills

Compensation and benefits
