Engineer

AbbVie seeks an engineer in North Chicago, IL onsite to plan and execute engineering projects, design and optimize processes, and mentor colleagues.

Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with applicable policies and procedures.
• Plan and conduct small- to medium-size engineering projects requiring conventional plans, investigations, and or equipment.
• Coordinate and monitor project activities.
• Review plans and track implementation status for assigned projects.
• Make judgments about the quality of implementation within the discipline.
• Apply contingency plans to recover from schedule slippage and budget overruns when appropriate.
• Estimate and coordinate resources needed, including materials, budget, time, and personnel, to complete tasks.
• Anticipate future directions and benchmark internally and externally.
• Identify environmental changes and present resources as indicators of future problems and opportunities; prepare accordingly.
• Independently execute the design of products, processes, equipment, systems, or facilities using standard engineering theories and techniques.
• Conduct independent investigations, tests, or experiments.
• Create or modify designs for intermediate problems; design or modify more complex components or processes and write detailed specifications.
• Predict patterns and trends; understand data relationships, assess consequences, and make recommendations.
• Improve methods, designs, and processes; recognize and implement cost-saving ideas and innovations.
• Generate original solutions and translate them into practical implementations.
• Mentor others by sharing technical expertise and providing feedback and guidance.
• Resolve underlying problems and identify full range of customer needs, proposing solutions to address them.
• Alter products or services to better meet customer needs.
• Direct the efforts of team members such as technicians and outside resources.
• Perform tasks such as writing requirements for capital expenditures, safety and quality checklists, and scope documents.
• Develop and execute validation protocols.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, science, or a closely related discipline, or equivalent technical experience, with 2+ years of significant engineering and/or operational experience; additional post-graduate education may contribute toward the desired experience.
• Demonstrated competency within a discipline.
• Working technical knowledge and application of concepts, practices, and procedures.
• Ability to tackle problems of moderate scope requiring analysis of identifiable factors.
• Judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate actions.
• Ability to interact well with diverse groups within engineering and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external collaborators.
• Effective listening and the ability to articulate perspectives clearly in oral, written, and presentation formats.
• Collaborative, fast-paced, goal-driven teamwork with other engineers.
• Strong interpersonal skills to negotiate and reconcile differences.
• Technical background in health care, medical devices, pharmaceutical, biologics, or similar industries is preferred.

Additional Information

The posted base pay range for this role is USD 65,500 to 125,500 per year. Final compensation will depend on factors including geographic location and job grade, and the range may be modified in the future.
