Engineer

Build and steward Groveport’s public infrastructure as an engineering leader with the City of Groveport. This onsite role combines public works oversight, development plan review, and management of engineering staff and capital improvement projects. Responsibilities

• Prepare engineering layouts for capital improvements including streets, storm, water, and facilities.
• Support the Chief Building and Zoning Officials with site plan submittals submitted to the City for review and action, including revising base and zoning maps.
• Review public records, legal plats, survey plat drawings, and related documents covering annexations, easements, dedications, and vacations prior to Council action.
• Review development plans to ensure compliance with City standards, including requirements related to street construction, storm water management, traffic, and sidewalks.
• Direct and review design work completed by consultants for the City.
• Manage development of bid packets and specifications for construction projects, including solicitation and evaluation of bids and preparation of bid summaries.
• Administer construction contracts, including evaluating pay applications for approval and coordination with payment by the Finance Director.
• Assist with development, maintenance, and updates to the City’s Five-Year Capital Plan, Street Inventory, Storm Water Management Plan, GIS, and other adopted or initiated infrastructure plans.
• Assist the Service Director with planning of the CMOM Program and Sidewalk Program.
• Analyze departmental needs, direct project estimate formulation, prepare appropriation budget and forecasting, and support capital improvements plan preparation with Council and the Mayor.
• Support grant application preparation and monitor budgets and expenses, including input on future capital projects for budgeting.
• Maintain working relationships with contractors, other engineers, the general public, and government agencies or officials to obtain and disseminate information related to essential job functions.
• Maintain required licensures and certification.
• Meet all job safety requirements and comply with applicable OSHA safety standards relevant to essential functions.
• Maintain regular and predictable attendance and perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in civil engineering from a college or university of recognized standing.
• Civil engineering experience, preferably at the local government level, with some experience preferably in a supervisory or managerial capacity.
• Minimum 4 years of experience and training in all aspects of CADD/GIS, drafting, and surveying, or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge and skills.
• Registered Professional Engineer certification within the State of Ohio.
• Valid Ohio driver’s license and the ability to maintain insurability under the Municipality’s vehicle insurance policy.

Pay: $100,587.76 - $128,922.04 per year (USD 100,588 - 128,922 per yearly)

Working Conditions

This position is considered light to medium work and includes exposure to chemical compounds found in an office environment, work near floor or wall openings and elevated platforms, ladder and scaffold use, work around powered and vehicle-mounted platforms, environmental conditions such as fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, and poorly ventilated areas, and potential exposure to hazardous gases, chemicals, flammables, and electric shock. Additional conditions may include contact with crowds or potentially violent or emotionally distraught persons, and exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy weather. The role may involve working with moving mechanical parts and infrequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of objects 50 lbs or less.
