Founding AI Engineer

Futureproofing is building an end-to-end AI platform for investment banking, and the founding team needs a Founding AI Engineer to help take an MVP through production and market readiness. This role centers on delivering LLM, agent, RAG, and evaluation capabilities as core product features, not add-ons.

Role Overview

You will own key parts of the system required to move from a working prototype to something customers can rely on. The work is hands-on across the stack, including data pipeline, infrastructure, and model integration, with close collaboration across the founding team on priorities and tradeoffs.

Responsibilities

• Take the product from MVP to a solution real customers depend on.
• Build with LLMs, agents, RAG, and evaluation as core parts of the product surface rather than bolt-ons.
• Work directly with the founding team to define what gets built and why.
• Provide real ownership in areas such as the data pipeline, infrastructure, and model integration.
• Move quickly alongside engineers who already know how to ship.

Required Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience shipping production software, including meaningful time at an early-stage company.
• Experience taking at least one AI-powered product from nothing to production users, with the ability to describe the tradeoffs made during the process.
• Deep familiarity with modern stacks, typically TypeScript/React/Node and/or Python, with comfort across full-stack development and into infrastructure.
• Uses AI tooling daily as part of how the work gets done.
• Comfort with ambiguity and the ability to make decisions that move the product forward.
• Ability to communicate technical tradeoffs clearly with non-engineering stakeholders.
• Founding engineer experience is a plus, with the note that this role does not carry the traditional scope of building and owning the entire system solo.
